Originally born in Seoul, South Korea, Woo Shik later immigrated to Vancouver, Canada, when he was in the 5th grade and lived there for the next ten years. He flew back to Korea and attended an acting audition in 2011. Woo Shik then debuted that same year and landed a role in the period drama, The Duo (2011) as the younger version of Gwi Dong. Since then, he has featured in a variety of TV shows such as Rooftop Prince (2012), You Are My Destiny (2014), and more. His major role was in 2014 when he played the lead role in the indie film, Set Me Free (2014) directed by Kim Tae Yong. Later that year, he then won "Actor of the Year" at the Busan International Film Festival for his work in Set Me Free. Woo Shik was accepted into JYP Entertainment and signed with them until 2018 when he decided not to renew his contract. He later signed with Management SOOP and is still currently under them.

Over the past five years, Woo Shik has been in ten films, growing his acting career by the minute. Due to the success of Korean media, he began to gain more international recognition starting in 2016 with the many films he has featured in that became a hit in different countries. In addition to the many movies he has been in, he has also contributed well to the K-drama world and appeared in many dramas. In 2017, he made a cameo appearance as Park Moo Bin in Fight For My Way (2017) starring Park Seo Joon. He then landed a supporting role in The Package (2017) as Kim Gyu Jae, as well as starred in The Boy Next Door (2017) as Park Gyu Tae with Jang Ki Yong and Jang Hee Ryung.

Train to Busan (2016)

A 2016 South Korean thriller horror film directed by Yeon Sang Ho starring Gong Yoo. It takes place during a zombie apocalypse that mysteriously emerged in Korea. The majority of the film takes place in a high-speed train that is on its way from Seoul to Busan. The movie gained large recognition not only in South Korea, but in the United States and Canada, with a gross of $2.1 million and a total gross of $98.5 million worldwide.

Woo Shik played the role of a high school baseball player named Young Guk. Because of the global recognition Train to Busan received, Woo Shik began to be acknowledged for his acting and later acted in other hit films.

The Witch: Part 1. The Subversion (2018)

Directed by Park Hoon Jung this film stars the rising actress Kim Da Mi and Choi Woo Shik. This mystery, action film is about the escape of a young girl from a laboratory that experimented on children. Ja Yoon (Kim Da Mi) is then adopted by a farm owner and his wife, and begins to live her life as a normal teenage girl. Her mother, on the other hand, has been diagnosed with dementia, and Ja Yoon is in search of a way to earn money to help her financially struggling family. She enters a singing contest that promises a cash prize if won. She is admired by judges due to her ability to levitate the microphone and is recognized on TV by Dr. Baek, the head of the mysterious laboratory from her past. Dr. Baek sends the Nobleman (Choi Woo Shik) and other men to search for her. From there, it is a nonstop action packed film of Ja Yoon vs. the antagonists of Dr. Baek and her assistants.

The character Woo Shik played was said to have been extremely different from the other characters he has acted in the past. Because of this, he left many fans swooning for the character of Nobleman and saying how well he acted as him.

Parasite (2019)

The infamous 2019 South Korean hit dark comedy film, Parasite (2019), was directed by none other than Bong Joon Ho. The film follows the life of the Kim family who come from the lower economic class in Korea, and end up scheming the rich and wealthy Park family. The Kim family pose as qualified workers and servants for the Park family in order to exploit the luxurious lifestyle the upper class in Korea experience. The film highlights the classist society that is still prominent in Korea and incorporates elements of social inequality and wealth disparity.

The film gained large popularity and many successes worldwide; it won a variety of awards recognized by the Western film industry. This includes the "Best Picture," "Best Original Screenplay," and "Best International Feature Film" for the film and "Best Director" for Bong Joon Ho at the 92nd Oscar Awards in 2020. Because of its success, it brought the spotlight on the names of the main cast, including Choi, who became more well known worldwide.

Woo Shik previously worked with Bong in his 2017 film, Okja (2017), in which he played Kim Woo Shik, a driver for the Miranda Corporation.

Casting news has been announced that Woo Shik will be partaking in many projects this year and a bit in the next year. Below are some of the upcoming projects that have been announced.

Us That Year (2021)

Cast: Choi Woo Shik, Kim Da Mi, Kim Sung Chul

Also known as "That Year, We Are," this SBS drama will star Choi Woo Shik and Kim Da Mi, and this will be their second project together. More information on the drama and casting will be announced closer to release date.

Release Date: Approximately airing from December 6, 2021 - January 25, 2022

Wonderland (2021)

Cast: Gong Yoo, Park Bo Gum, Bae Suzy, Choi Woo Shik, and Jung Yu Mi

This sci-fi fantasy Korean film, directed by Kim Tae Yong, is about a virtual world called 'Wonderland' that uses AI in order for people to meet or reunite with others they are most likely never to meet again. While there is some information about this film, more will be announced closer to the release date.

Release Date: No official date has been announced, but it is claimed to be released in the second half of 2021.

Woo Shik is friends with well known celebrities that he has met either on set or through other connections. He is great friends with V of BTS, rapper Peakboy, and actors Park Seo Joon and Park Hyung Sik. They call themselves the Wooga Squad, which stands for "Are we family?" according to V.

They all became a group thanks to Park Seo Joon. Seo Joon, Hyung Sik, and V all starred in the KBS drama, Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth (2016). Peakboy is claimed to be a longtime friend of Seo Joon, and joined the group afterwards. Woo Shik finally joined because of his connection with Seo Joon since 2012 when they met in the sitcom Shut Up Family (2012). Ever since, they have always found the time to hang out together and support each other's career.
