Rookie actress Jo Yi Hyun is currently in talks to play the main lead role for "School 2021"

On April 1, industry insiders revealed that Jo Yi Hyun received an offer to be the female lead of the much anticipated school series "School 2021." Kim Yo Han is already confirmed to be the male lead and actor Kim Young Dae is also in talks to join the upcoming drama.

The female lead role was first offered to "Okja" star Ahn Seo Hyun, followed by actress Kim Sae Ron but the casting for both eventually fell through. Jo Yi Hyun has now received the lead role offer and her agency Artist Company shared that the rookie actress is positively considering the offer.

The "School" series is a trademark drama made by KBS. They have already produced seven School series. It started with the "School 1" in 1999 until "School 2017" in 2017. In particular, Jang Hyuk, Im Soo Jung, Gong Yoo, Ha Ji Won, Jo In Sung, Kim Woo Bin, Lee Jong Suk, and Nam Joo Hyuk are some of the actors that starred in the series.

The upcoming "School 2021" will showcase the lives of students from a specialized high school as they pursue each of their unique dreams instead of going the normal route of preparing for college.

If accepted, Jo Yi Hyun will play the character of Na Geum Young, a student from the specialized high school who dreams of becoming a Youtuber. She learns cooking at the said school and her parents run a karaoke room business.

Jo Yi Hyun debuted in 2018 and was recognized for her appearance in the 2020 series "Hospital Playlist." She will also be part of the upcoming Netflix series "All of Us Are Dead."

"School 2021" is slated to air this coming August.
