According to the Korean Film Council's integrated computer network for theater tickets, I, the Executioner has surpassed 1 million moviegoers. On September 14, it attracted 755,124 people in a single day and recorded a total of 1,271,170 moviegoers since its release on September 13. It has been the number one film at the box office for two consecutive days.
I, the Executioner reached this milestone of surpassing 1 million moviegoers faster than both Exhuma — which became a ten-million-ticket-seller earlier this year in three days — and last year's highest-grossing K-movie, 12.12: The Day, which took four days to hit the same mark. It tied the record set by The Roundup: Punishment.
I, the Executioner also reached 1 million viewers a day faster than its previous installment Veteran (2015).
The sequel to the 2015 domestic box office hit Veteran, I, the Executioner is an action-crime thriller about young Detective Park Sun Woo (Jung Hae In) joining the violent crime investigation team and working with veteran Detective Seo Do Cheol (Hwang Jung Min).
