Top actress Lee Young Ae will greet K-drama fans as Dae Jang Geum once again.
On January 30, Fantagio announced that the production of Uinyeo Dae Jang Geum (working title) was finally confirmed. They also revealed that actress Lee Young Ae has been cast since June to be the main lead and the filming is scheduled to start this October. Fantagio also recently signed a contract with a drama writer for the upcoming K-drama.
Uinyeo Dae Jang Geum will be the follow-up of MBC's classic K-drama Jewel in the Palace that aired in 2003. The K-drama is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year and the filming of the follow-up series will be done this year as well. According to reports, the K-drama will premiere in early 2025.
Uinyeo Dae Jang Geum will continue to tell the story of Jang Geum who became a uniyeo (female physician).
Lee Young Ae will continue to portray the role of Dae Jang Geum, the character that made her a Hallyu star.
The title of the K-drama Uinyeo Dae Jang Geum is a temporary one and the official title will likely change in the future. There is no confirmation yet on the platform where it will be aired. The upcoming K-drama will be produced by Fantagio.
This will be the second upcoming K-drama of Lee Young Ae. The top actress is also expected to lead the upcoming thriller series Eun Soo Good Day which will be directed by Park Hyun Suk (Song of the Bandits and Stranger Season 2).
She recently starred in the tvN K-drama Maestra: Strings of Truth wherein she challenged herself in portraying the role of a music conductor. She worked alongside Lee Moo Saeng, Kim Young Jae, Hwang Bo Reum Byeol, Park Ho San, and Yang Jun Mo.
