The prosecution has demanded a 4-year prison sentence for actor Yoo Ah In, who has been indicted on charges of habitual use of propofol, marijuana, and other narcotics.

On July 24, at the final hearing for Yoo Ah In's case held in the 25th Criminal Division of the Seoul Central District Court, the prosecution requested a sentence of 4 years in prison, a fine of 2 million won, and a surcharge of 1.54 million won for Yoo Ah In, on charges including violations of the Narcotics Control Act, marijuana smoking and abetting, and evidence destruction.

The prosecution pointed out, "As a famous celebrity in Korea, he used his wealth and fame to deceive doctors and spent 500 million won to acquire drugs illegally on a habitual basis. He also administered drugs overseas using his personal network." They further stated, "He is not just an actor but one with a heavy social responsibility for his bold statements, and it has been revealed through verified evidence that he was preoccupied with covering up his crimes using his social influence." "The nature of his crimes is reprehensible."

The prosecution also demanded a 4-year prison sentence for Choi, an artist and acquaintance of Yoo Ah In, on charges including violations of the Narcotics Control Act, retaliation threats under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes, and aiding and abetting a criminal.

Yoo Ah In was indicted for habitual propofol use 181 times at hospitals in Seoul from September 2020 to March 2022, and for illegally obtaining sleeping pills in another person's name from May 2021 to August 2022. He also faces charges of smoking marijuana in the United States and instructing others to do so.

Yoo Ah In admits to the propofol use but claims that it was done under the doctor's supervision for medical purposes. He also admits to smoking marijuana but denies all charges of encouraging or forcing it on others and tampering with evidence.

In the final plea, Yoo Ah In expressed, "I deeply reflect on my mistakes and want to apologize. Through this incident, I've had time to reflect on my entire life. I am determined to live as a more mature and responsible person." He also stated, "Regardless of the verdict, I will work to repay many who care about me by being much healthier and more honest in the future. And I will make a greater contribution to society."
