Season 2 and 3 of Netflix's "Squid Game" to be released sequentially

The Netflix original K-drama Squid Game is confirmed to have two new seasons that will reportedly be released sequentially.

On June 14, media outlets shared that the much anticipated new season of Squid Game has already concluded its filming. It was also revealed that season 2 and season 3 will be released sequentially on the OTT platform. Seasons 2 and 3 were reportedly filmed at the same time. It was also reported that the cast and crew of Squid Game Season 2 had a two-day wrap-up party in Gapyeong on June 11 and 12 to mark their last filming. 

Netflix then gave their official statement regarding the news. Netflix denied the reports that the two new seasons will be released one after another. They also did not confirm and declined to comment about the release and production of season 3. 

Last year, Netflix also denied the production of the two seasons simultaneously. According to Netflix, they are currently focusing on season 2 and not a simultaneous production.

Reports stated that Squid Game Season 2 will have a total of 6 episodes while Squid Game Season 3 is planned to have 6 to 7 episodes. 

The Squid Game Season 2 will premiere exclusively on Netflix in the second half of 2024.

The upcoming new season of Squid Game will continue to showcase the story of Seong Gi Hoon, the recent winner of the mysterious game. He was planning to go to the United States but decided to stay and started a chase with a motive.

Lee Jung Jae will continue to lead the upcoming K-drama. This time, he will be working with Lee Byung Hun, Wi Ha Joon,  Yim Si Wan, Kang Ha Neul, Park Sung Hoon, Yang Dong Geun, Park Gyu Young, Won Ji An, Lee Jin Wook, Kang Ae Shim, David Lee, Noh Jae Won, Jo Yu Ri, and former BIGBANG member T.O.P. Actor Gong Yoo will make a special appearance once again in the new season. 

The new season will still be directed and produced by director Hwang Dong Hyuk.
