The Hashida Cultural Foundation was established in 1993 by Hashida Sugako, a playwright particularly known for writing the original story for the NHK drama Asadora Oshin, which had a total of 297 episodes that ran from April 1983 up until March 1984. The series had a film remake in 2013.
She is considered to be Japan's most successful TV drama scriptwriter.
The Hashida Awards Ceremony honors outstanding achievements and contributions of Japanese artists in television. The awards ceremony was supposed to take place last year but was postponed due to health concerns regarding the COVID-19 pandemic.
