As of August 30th, according to the Korean Film Council's integrated computer network, Smugglers has surpassed 5 million moviegoers. As a gesture of gratitude for the audience's support and the film's success, the production team of Smugglers released a set of stills, which were previously undisclosed.

Directed by Ryu Seung Wan, Smugglers has gained recognition for its distinctive directorial style, stellar performances by the cast, well-crafted character dynamics, thrilling action sequences, and a nostalgia-inducing OST. It has become the film that has captivated audiences of all generations, enjoying growing popularity at the box office.

Smugglers surpassed 1 million viewers in just 4 days, 2 million in 7 days, 3 million in 11 days, 4 million in 17 days, and, now, 5 million in 36 days.

The movie has consistently maintained high ticket reservation rates and seat occupancy, drawing in 5 million viewers and reviving the craze of Korean cinema.

Accompanying the new stills is a heartfelt message from director Ryu Seung Wan celebrating the achievement of 5 million viewers. He writes, "To the 5 million viewers, I express my deepest gratitude". 

Smugglers takes place in the 1970s in a serene coastal village on Jeju Island. Haenyeo (women divers who collect abalone, conches, and other oceanic commodities for a living) of this village face a threat to their livelihood after a chemical factory nestles in. 

Looking for alternative sources of income, two women, Chun Ja (Kim Hye Soo) and Jin Suk (Yeom Jung Ah) get caught up in the smuggling business, collecting illegal shipments from the sea. 

The movie also stars Zo In Sung, Park Jung MinKim Jong Soo, and Go Min Si, among others.
