In the first third of the book, these violent scenes happen naturally (as if it were normal for a royal person to treat a female servant in that way). And she, with her intelligence and having lived through so many hardships in life (adapts to the moment), chooses what is least bad given the situation. (But at the same time, the female author of the book wanted to develop a redeemable anti-hero), who at the end of the book enjoys flowers with the woman he loves. And he chooses not to have any concubines and to marry Mei Lin as his legitimate wife.
But the female writer overemphasized the unacceptable attitudes of the male character. He sweats her physically every day. He thinks it is normal to hand over a woman who does not want to obey him to his soldiers for sexual satisfaction.( (No, another woman, Adai (in the book) who did not want to obey him, stay there as a servant, wanted to run away).)
However, the female writer chose as a means to redeem him, making him completely physically incapable, being diminished in his strength, having to be carried by Mei Lin throughout the book, and enduring other humiliating moments before her eyes.

I cannot pinpoint why i love this drama so much thus far. It seems the writing contributes a lot, the lines the characters say just tugs at my heartstrings. I'm already rooting for the leads to win their revenge and have a happily ever after!

That was such a beautiful moment ? Youku you better give us a happy ending. We need to see them open their cake shop and grow some undying flowers in the backyard while living a sweet happy life... Youku better give this to us!!??

On another note: One thing I really like about Mei Lin's character is that, though she's an assassin, and tough when she needs to, she's also a sweet and easy soul on the regular. She's so agreeable and sweet. She switches when she needs to, and it's seamlessly.

I really like how WJY is portraying Mei Lin. She has the character's personality down pat and it's lovely to watch her.
