I'll believe it when I see it. Although roughly 70% of the Japanese public supports same-sex marriage in two recent high-quality opinion polls, which is the highest approval rate in Asia, even above Thailand (see graphic below), the national government is soooo conservative, and I don't see that changing under Ishiba. Per a recent article in Asahi Shimbun: "Although Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba has said that recognizing same-sex marriage would have a positive impact on society, he remains hesitant to commit to legislative action." This sounds like Japanese indirectness for a big fat "no". (I hope I'm wrong.)
