I am trying to help a friend, she said she watched this movie when she was younger. Believes the movie was realeased in early 2000's. It's either about a mongolian tribe or the huns. Main character is training to be a warrior, he had a really close relationship with a friend (maybe brother). They trained a lot together. They get separated and get into different tribes. Main character was going to be or was the leader of one tribe. Later in the movie he was to be put to death, but the king granted instead that instead he would be put into a series of trials. If he passed them, he would live. The trials included are ride through a field of archers, a battle of wits, and lastly beating their greatest warrior. This greatest warrior turned out to be main character's close childhood friend.
My friend doesn't remember if it was subbed or dubbed, or anything but would really like to find this movie. And she's also pretty sure Romans weren't involved in the movie.
