I'm enjoying this drama, but several things bother me about it. While I'm watching it I actually have to shut off my brain and be in a very forgiving mood.
Some aspects that bother me:
- Ha Ji Won disguising herself as a man... is laughable. Are we supposed to believe that? Her hair, her voice, her clothing, her perfect makeup, her mannerisms... she looks like a woman no matter how you look at it.
- How did she survive being surrounded by men all those years? Even as an adult she blushes and shrieks at the sight of a naked man. I seriously doubt she had that much space/privacy/time to bathe alone while living surrounded by men.
- The whole ~special arrow~ thing is impressive and all that... but please shut up about it. It's getting annoyingly repetitive.
- I can't believe that sissy Prince is the one who gets her in the end. I hate his guts!
It's moments like these where I regret having watched so many dramas. I can't help but comparing "Empress Ki" to so many other dramas I've watched before... like "Queen Seon Seok" (that's the most similar one), "Hong Gil Dong", "The Legend" and others.
Anyways, despite my reservations it's a very pretty drama and a nice way to pass the time.

The scene with Jackal and the Prince in the bath really annoyed me. She was blushing every second and, moreover, she was avoiding watching him but nevertheless she forgets that and turns around... only to see him naked. What a big surprise. I'm okay if she's surprised and embarassed if the King "hugs" her from behind and things like that tough...
About the Prince, I don't like him either. I guess he will get her only because he is the Emperor of Yuan, and Yuan is more powerful than Goryeo.
I have one question about Sungnyang. When she was a child, she was about to be sent off to Yuan in order to become a concubine. That is what we saw in the first episode. When did she and her mother leave her father? Before that? I don't understand why she didn't even know her family name or his father. Did they take her when she was younger?

I thought they would explain that better in the drama, but after what happened to her father I don't think we'll ever get that explanation.
I'm guessing her mother was a slave, fell in love with a lord and then ran away from him. But we'll keep wondering WHY.
The drama is moving at such a fast pace. They spent so little time explaining her childhood, her background! So far that's the biggest difference I see between "Queen Seon Duk" and "Empress Ki": in "Queen Seon Duk" they spent a long time showing how she grew up. It was pretty interesting.
The thing is... if "Empress Ki" is moving so fast, what will they show for the next 46 episodes? Please don't tell me it'll be just the two Kings fighting for her love back and forth. Jealousy, crying, misunderstandings, declarations of love, noble sacrifices, long meaningful stares? I can't take 46 episodes of that.

i think she end up with the prince for the better of the 2 country. In the beginning it really seem like she loved the king of Goryeo which was why she was tearing as he walked away....
also we only 4 ep in, i think we get to see how the prince matures as the drama go on (or at least i hope he does) ...
In terms of her father, he is a general so usually they are stationed somewhere. When watching the past scene it was kinda easy to see that all the families were teared apart as a punishment of some sort

thats what i say to myself every week! instead of wasting time and dragging out plots they did the opposite. I think the storyline is going by really quick, i'm loving it and cant complain but i just fear for the future.

I also worry that because they moved this fast at the beginning, it will do the dragging soon. But I'm also hoping that they manage the time well. I'm hoping the power struggles and clashes to come, with a few romance scenes thrown in, are enough to fill in the rest of the story without having to add silly filler episodes.
And the scenes with Ha Ji Won and JJM tear me up, especially when they were *both tied to that post in the tent and he grabbed her hand. *
The ending of ep. 8 is killing me because the *Yuan emperor, who had confessed "male" Sungnyang made his heart go dugeun dugeun, saw her as a female and a servant when he had asked she should be spared. I think this might be be the beginning of him trying to push against the "El Temur"(?) has over him.* Or am I placing too much hope too soon on him? LOL
I also love when they show power struggles within the inner court and these two in Yuan are making it worth my while, which might be why I loved Cruel Palace. I'll admit I loved the villainess there.
I also loved the opening scene. It has to be one of the best ones I've seen and one of my favorites.

i think the push against his uncle is already in the works. He is just pretending to be under him :o
i'm actually not a politic person when it comes to korean dramas since its usually alot of talking, however the politic within this drama got alot of action involved which is really entertaining.
And yes i agree the opening scene was amazing. It was just too beautiful. Its a very unforgettable beginning which flashes back in my memory throughout the drama
