Elise:
I know, right?! Is there anyone here that's NOT an ex-Jinger?
I wasn't. I came into the show already a TJC fan, though, but I had seen a bit of DW's previous acting work and thought he needed some more acting classes and experience. After starting to watch, I found the character of Jing quite bland and boring and stereotypical Mr. Nice Guy that FLs usually end up with and shows cram down our throats as being the solid, good choice as a male partner that audiences often fall for because the average viewer usually does end up liking and supporting what is being telegraphed and pushed by the show as being The Good One who will somehow save the FL from her own self-destructive desires for what is bad for her. Only positive is that Jing is such a basic character in the show that DW's limited range is good enough to portray him, and his idol soft pretty boy looks suit the character perfectly.
I was nervous and a bit skeptical as to how TJC would be styled as XL, I knew his acting would be amazing, but there was a lot of criticism online from novel fans when his casting was announced that he was not beautiful enough to play the character as XL was described in the novel. Especially given that other, more famous and widely considered to be peak male beauty actors in China (although, not by me) such as Yang Yang and Xiao Zhan had been wanted for the role. At his first appearance in the show, my worries went away, his portrayal is, imo, definitive.
