Wrap Up
Chapter 11
Wrap Up
Part 1
About Little Zhu Rong
Little Zhu Rong was a direct descendant of Sheng Nong imperial family, the son of big hero Zhu Rong. But he surrendered Yellow Emperor, married into Chui Sui family. Then he was given to govern middle plain which used to under control of Sheng Nong.
Surrendering to Yellow Emperor, not counting on both his parents died for world might the subject for people to criticize at behind his back. However, he was just and fair, transformed the lawless area like middle plain into civilized one. So people can settled there. He was respected by then.
Chui Sui autumn tournament was for middle plain families to have fun, competition, to learn and grow and meet more people. It sounds to me like it is a time and place for gathering and meeting. This event was supported by Yellow Emperor and Grand Emperor as they send official to grant rewards to young participants there.
This passage introduce us to Chui Sui Zhu Rong surrendering to Yellow Emperor as not a bad thing. After all he still got to establish his strength ruling middle plain and also creating Chui Sui Autumn Tournament which some of our leads will be enjoying in chapter 11.
If Little Zhu Rong just determined to win Yellow Emperor through battles, maybe he would not have established his strength and creation.
The Legend of The Drought Monster
Both Zhuan Xu and Xiao Liu had never came to Chui Sui middle plain. Xiao Liu had not come here because her mother died in battlefield here.
So the boat master told the legend. There was no barren desert before hundred years ago so. The rumors said there was peach blossoms forest in the middle of the desert.
There lived a demon beast that is like flame that scrotched the earth. The demon was known as drought monster because it brought drought to the area. Some gods tried to take out the monster but the area just became too hot for them when get into desert forest. But then the monster did not really hurt anyone so it was just left like that.
The role of the monster could become important in later chapter because it was told with such details. One thing is for sure is that Xiao Liu did not hate the monster. It again showed us that Xiao Liu had this ability to not to judge someone on surface and could see through goodness despite appearance.
Part2
Ah Nian's Power and the Food
I think this scene was just fun. I like how Zhuan Xu and Xiao Liu were easy going and enjoying street food. It is like they were enjoying this ordinary life at the tournament.
Even when Ah Nian was such a brat I liked how she showed off her power by dividing the lake and Xiao Liu got the fish for cooking.
The particular scene show Xiao Liu's cooking skills apart from medicine and poison making.
The Song of Zither and Flute
Within the lonely fog scene the sound of zither was added. Zhuan Xu was made played flute by Ah Nian.
His flute sound aglined with zither music. It is explained even who was novice at music like Xiao Liu could tell how much this combination made beautiful tune. This again annoyed Ah Nian and she made Zhuan Xu stopped.
The zither player also stopped playing angrily.
This particular scene might be telling us Zhuan Xu and the zither player may get to involved in life. There could be something that made them compatible as the combination sound of zither and flute. Nevertheless Zhuan Xu might not be able play along with her to end.
And another thing about this scene is how much Xiao Liu was not that good in music. Because it is well known Jing is master of music. This is again showing the attraction came to not only between those with same interest and skills in life.
Part 3
Fang Feng Yi Yang's Assasination Attempt ?
Xiao Liu preparation of food and Ah Nian's fishes (she split lake for Xiao Liu to catch fishes) must had caught attention from surrounding boats to want to buy fish from them, that Lady Fang Feng Yi Yang. The maid she sent to buy fish was mocked by Ah Nian and her maid, and that lead to Fang Feng Yi Yang shooting arrows at our main characters' boat. Of course this should not be coincident and Ru So being shocked in another scene even also showed he understood the situation. This chao situation could be after all Fang Feng Yi Yang's plan and Ah Nian and her maid just acted out to make it easier for her. I just hope we will get to see why Jing's fiance was involved in such assasination attempt.
Xiao Liu Being Hero For Bratty Ah Nian
We learned in this scene that both Zhuan Xu and Ah Nian could not swim. Nevertheless, Zhuan Xu definetly knew how to look after himself, he also did show his protectiveness to others on the boat too, whereas Ah Nian seemed to be quited pampered by others that she did not know what to such life threatening situation at all. Her maid Hai Tang was shot with arrow. Nevertheless, our hero, Xiao Liu was able to save both ladies and took them back to Ru So.
Part 4
Short Encounterment but Sentimental
Sentimental Herbal Scent
In the whole chapter 11, there is this brief encounterment between Xiao Liu and Jing. But it was a strong scene though. I love this scent of herbal communication between them. In drama, it was a herbal saschet she personally gave him and he treasure it. With scent as communication, it is indeed representing the treasured moments and the sensual feelings. With its being herbal, it must be something that is healing feeling.
Sliver of Warmth
He sent her off and standing still watching her from behind until she was out of sight. Of course, such feelings represent that he would be here for her even he might be lonely when she was away. But she certainly feel the warmth of him being there for her.
Jealousy from Far Away
In another scene Xiao Liu could feel that her interactions with Ru So could make Jing jealous. According to the context she sounded delighting about it as she was laughing and muttering on how their promise excluding of not talking to other guys. In the past she's the one to feel sort of jealous over maids around him. But now it's his turn (according to her). Jing maybe jealous over guys around his Wen Xiao Liu, nevertheless, he still did not have the right over Xiao Liu, with him being engaged to another woman and engagment is not called off yet. All he could do now was to watch over her from afar and need to accept she could not belong to him fully yet.
Part 5
Zhuan Xu's Intelligence and Good Luck Out of Chaos
With Fang Feng Yi Yang causing chaos at Zhuan Xu, he was still able to make connection the important clans such Chui Sui, Tushan...Being companion to her zither, Chui Sui Xing Yue helped the owner the flute who was drowning. Was it all destined?
Maybe Zhuan Xu was the destined one. But he was practical about it. And he was smart enough to guess of Fang Feng Yi Yang's plan and limit in processing it.
A Girl Who Dreams
Xiao Liu may still be a girl who believe in destiny bringing events together because to her the coincidents sounds magical in which Zhuan Xu had to call her "a girl who dreams".
But to Zhuan Xu, things had to happens as what should be and he knew all those clans he needed support from also need something from him.
About the line "A girl who dreams" to me is referring to someone who thought of impossible things that could happen. Life is sometimes a miracle indeed although it might not fulfill every dream. Sometimes the impossible can become possible. Nevertheless there are many times the impossible just stay impossible forever. In this case dreaming impossibility might be such a loss.
Wrap Up
Chapter 11 holds a lot of important hints to what might be happening in later chapters of the story. We are introduced to the Chui Sui family and middle plain tournament. We learn about Drought Monster existence at Chui Sui middle plain. Zhuan Xu getting into four great clans Chui Sui, Tushan, Zi Ling and Gui Feng. Zhuan flute aglining with the sound of zither and player saved him from drowning might indicate their destiny in the future. And yep Xiao Liu and Jing still got to meet for short time. Yet their sentimental longing are still strong. All in all, this chapter indeed attract us deeper into the events of the story that may be unfolding in upcoming chapters.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Xiao Liu suddenly sighed “I feel like fate is so magical. So many coincidences yet it’s all headed towards an inevitable. The Chi Sui clan and the Sheng Nong family are two families you have to get on your side. I just never thought it would come by this way.”
“You! You claim to have seen it all, yet you’re still a girl who dreams!” Zhuan Xu rapped her on the head “There is no real coincidence, there is only a must happen. The Sheng Nong tribe and Chi Sui clans, whether they stand with me is not based on coincidence, it’s based on what I can give them. These coincidences are merely the thin veil wrapped around something that must and will happen.”
“Ay! Gege you are too rational, and too cold hearted……” Xiao Liu pouted and then laughed at herself “I guess it’s good that I still dream.”
Zhuan Xu tenderly stroked her head.
I really enjoyed what @Winny Aye said about this moment:
*************************************************************************************************
It is notable yes - how this excerpt depicts an interesting contrast in perspectives between Xiao Liu and Zhuan Xu regarding fate and coincidence. Xiao Liu expresses a belief in the magical nature of fate, finding wonder in the coincidences that seem to guide events. She sees these occurrences as part of a larger, perhaps predestined, plan.
Zhuan Xu, on the other hand, takes a more pragmatic and calculated view. He dismisses the idea of coincidence, emphasizing that events are driven by necessity and what he can offer to others.
The phrase "A girl who dreams" carries a sense of both wonder and perhaps naivety. Xiao Liu's belief in destiny and the magical nature of events is seen as dreamlike and idealistic by Zhuan Xu. It speaks to the contrast between embracing the seemingly impossible and the practical, calculated approach to achieving goals.
=> The author in this passage is highlighting the contrast between Xiao Liu's idealism and Zhuan Xu's pragmatism. It also adds depth to the characters, emphasizing their differing worldviews and the tension between belief and skepticism.
"A girl who dreams" is captured as someone who believes in the possibility of the impossible and the potential for miracles is insightful. It captures the essence of Xiao Liu's perspective, suggesting that while life may not fulfill every dream, there is still value in holding onto hope and seeing the extraordinary in the seemingly ordinary. This interpretation adds depth to the characters and the themes of Tong Hua's story and overall, the excerpt uses symbolism and literary devices to explore themes of fate, coincidence, and differing perspectives on life.

Xiao Liu said nothing more and Shi Qi silently kept Xiao Liu company under the sun. Xiao Liu never turned around but his herbal scent was very calming. Until the sun was setting over the river, Shi Qi softly said “I need to leave. When are you going back?”
“I need to go back too.”
“Then you go first.”
Xiao Liu felt a sliver of warmth in her heart and stood up to leave. She walked slowly down the river edge towards the residence, knowing someone was sending her off with his eyes. It made this walk feel less lonely with someone keeping her company.
But the person sending her off gave her the warmth while he kept the loneliness of watching her gradually disappear from sight.

- The juxtaposition of warmth felt by Xiao Liu and the loneliness experienced by Shi Qi creates a poignant contrast. This duality enhances the emotional depth of the passage, making it more resonant and relatable to readers who may have experienced similar moments of connection and separation.
Narrative Technique:
- The use of third-person narration allows the reader to observe the scene from an external perspective, providing insights into both characters' thoughts and emotions. This narrative choice enhances the reader's empathy and understanding of the characters' internal worlds.
Let's further explore the sensory details, symbolism, and nuances in the passage with specific quotes:
Sensory Details:
"Xiao Liu never turned around but his herbal scent was very calming."
- This line introduces the olfactory sense, emphasizing the herbal scent that surrounds Xiao Liu. The use of the word "calming" suggests that this scent has a soothing effect, possibly providing a sense of security or familiarity to Xiao Liu.

- The visual imagery of Xiao Liu walking along the river edge engages the reader's sense of sight. The act of "someone sending her off with his eyes" introduces a non-verbal, visual communication that adds an emotional layer to the scene.
Symbolism:
"Until the sun was setting over the river..."

Nuances in Dialogue:
"I need to leave. When are you going back?"
- Shi Qi's inquiry about Xiao Liu's departure time indicates a desire to coordinate their movements, subtly expressing a wish to spend more time together before parting.
"Then you go first."
- Xiao Liu's response is layered with nuance. On the surface, it may seem like a polite gesture, allowing Shi Qi to leave first. However, it also reveal a reluctance to part, as she doesn't want to witness him watching her disappear.
Contrasting Emotions:
"Xiao Liu felt a sliver of warmth in her heart..."
- The use of the word "warmth" conveys a positive and comforting emotion. This warmth is likely generated by Shi Qi's silent companionship, creating a contrast to the upcoming loneliness.
"...while he kept the loneliness of watching her gradually disappear from sight."
- The phrase "loneliness of watching her" conveys the emotional weight Shi Qi bears. The act of watching someone disappear suggests a sense of loss or separation, highlighting the poignancy of the moment.
Tushan Jing - Xiao Liu's Loneliness:
"She walked slowly down the river edge towards the residence, knowing someone was sending her off with his eyes. It made this walk feel less lonely with someone keeping her company."
- The act of walking alone by the river suggests a metaphorical journey, through the challenges of life or a period of transition. The loneliness is subtly alleviated by the unspoken company of the other person, emphasizing the emotional support provided by Shi Qi's silent presence.
"...while he kept the loneliness of watching her gradually disappear from sight."
- The phrase "loneliness of watching her" conveys a sense of solitude experienced by Shi Qi as he witnesses Xiao Liu's departure. This loneliness may imply a longing or a sense of emptiness that arises from the imminent separation.
Shi Qi as the Sun:
"Until the sun was setting over the river..."
- The setting sun symbolize the conclusion of a phase or a cycle. In the context of Shi Qi, it represent his role as a stabilizing force in Xiao Liu's life, providing warmth and light.
"Shi Qi silently kept Xiao Liu company under the sun."
- The image of Shi Qi being associated with the sun suggests a positive and nurturing presence. The sun often symbolizes vitality, energy, and life, emphasizing Shi Qi's role in bringing light and warmth to Xiao Liu's world.
Herbal Scent as a Symbol:
"Xiao Liu never turned around but his herbal scent was very calming."
- The herbal scent associated with Shi Qi serves as a sensory symbol. The calming nature of the scent represent the emotional soothing or grounding effect that Shi Qi has on Xiao Liu. It also symbolize healing or a connection to nature.
"Xiao Liu felt a sliver of warmth in her heart and stood up to leave."
- The "sliver of warmth" in Xiao Liu's heart is linked to both Shi Qi's presence and the herbal scent. This warmth signifies emotional comfort and a positive influence on Xiao Liu's feelings and well being.
=> In summary, Shi Qi is portrayed as a positive and comforting force, symbolized by the sun and the calming herbal scent. Xiao Liu's loneliness is poignantly depicted as she walks along the river, and the contrast between her solitude and Shi Qi's supportive presence enhances the emotional depth of the scene.

Now isnt this interesting? :D
=> So...you know me, if a visual peeps my curiosity...I'll dive into it. What's the meaning of the Lyberty statue? French: La Liberté éclairant le monde.?
*The idea for the statue was born in 1865, when the French historian and abolitionist Édouard de Laboulaye proposed a monument to commemorate the upcoming centennial of U.S. independence (1876), the perseverance of American democracy and the liberation of the nation's slaves.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Statue_of_Liberty
*The statue is a figure of Libertas, the Roman goddess of liberty. She holds a torch above her head with her right hand, and in her left hand carries a tabula ansata inscribed JULY IV MDCCLXXVI (July 4, 1776, in Roman numerals), the date of the U.S. Declaration of Independence. A broken chain and shackle lie at her feet as she walks forward, commemorating the national abolition of slavery following the American Civil War.[8] After its dedication the statue became an icon of freedom and of the United States .
Bartholdi and Laboulaye considered how best to express the idea of American liberty.[23] In early American history, two female figures were frequently used as cultural symbols of the nation.[24] One of these symbols, the personified Columbia, was seen as an embodiment of the United States in the manner that Britannia was identified with the United Kingdom, and Marianne came to represent France. Columbia had supplanted the traditional European Personification of the Americas as an "Indian princess", which had come to be regarded as uncivilized and derogatory toward Americans.[24] The other significant female icon in American culture was a representation of Liberty, derived from Libertas, the goddess of freedom widely worshipped in ancient Rome, especially among emancipated slaves. A Liberty figure adorned most American coins of the time,[23] and representations of Liberty appeared in popular and civic art, including Thomas Crawford's Statue of Freedom (1863) atop the dome of the United States Capitol Building.[23]
The statue's design evokes iconography evident in ancient history including the Egyptian goddess Isis, the ancient Greek deity of the same name, the Roman Columbia and the Christian iconography of the Virgin Mary.[25][26]
Liberty is depicted with a raised right foot, showing that she is walking forward amidst a broken shackle and chain.
Interesting right?
As we continue our exploration, I getting more and more curious!!!
Symbolika1:Interesting right?
Title: Metaphors of Liberation:
Analyzing Symbolism in Xiao Liu and Shi Qi's Relationship chapter 11.
The presence of a straw-made round element, resembling an aureole, behind Xiao Liu in different scenes could indeed be a symbolic representation of her desire for a simpler, commoner's life rather than the grandeur associated with being a princess. The Statue of Liberty, often associated with freedom and the pursuit of a better life, might serve as an artistic choice to convey Xiao Liu's yearning for independence and a life unencumbered by the responsibilities and constraints of royalty.
It's interesting to consider the potential connection between the visual elements in the TV serie and Xiao Liu's expressed preferences in the novel. The visual circled Libertas related inspiration from the Statue of Liberty, suggest a subtle yet powerful way to convey Xiao Liu's inner conflict and her aspiration for a life grounded in liberty and simplicity.
Tong Hua, being a Chinese New Yorker, could be whiling indeed to infuse her work with elements that resonate with her experiences and cultural references. Writers often incorporate their own perspectives and cultural background into their storytelling, adding layers of meaning that keen observers can pick up on. While this interpretation may not be explicitly stated in the text, it provides an intriguing lens through which to view Xiao Liu's character and her journey in the narrative.
Regarding the recurring association of the sun with Tushan Jing/Yeshiqi, this symbolism indicates a profound connection between his presence and positive qualities associated with sunlight. Here are additional reflections on this theme:
Guiding Presence:
Tushan Jing's role as a guiding force in Xiao Liu's life is emphasized by the association with sunlight. Much like the sun provides light and direction, he offers support and clarity during challenging times, acting as a constant presence in her journey.
Warmth and Vitality:
The sun is often linked to warmth and vitality, and Tushan Jing's proximity to Xiao Liu underlines his role in bringing positive energy and life to her world. His presence is portrayed as a source of comfort and strength.
Symbolic of Unchanging Support:
The sun's consistency in rising every day may symbolize Tushan Jing's unwavering support. Regardless of the circumstances, he remains a constant in Xiao Liu's life, offering unwavering companionship and encouragement.
The recurring use of these symbols adds depth to the narrative, allowing readers and viewers to explore nuanced layers of meaning in the characters' relationships and the overarching themes of the story.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Introduction:
In the rich tapestry of Tong Hua's narrative, the characters of Xiao Liu and Shi Qi are not merely individuals but vessels of profound symbolism. Metaphors, woven into the fabric of their personas, transcend the ordinary and illuminate universal themes of freedom, identity, and the interplay of personal and shared experiences. This essay explores the nuanced metaphors surrounding Xiao Liu and Shi Qi, focusing on the herbal scent, the Statue of Liberty, and the sun, unraveling their implications and the complexity they add to the narrative.
The Herbal Scent: Nature, Healing, and Authenticity
The use of the herbal scent to represent Shi Qi's presence introduces a sensory layer that goes beyond mere description. Herbal scents evoke images of nature, simplicity, and healing. In the context of Xiao Liu's life, burdened by the complexities of royalty, Shi Qi becomes a metaphorical breath of fresh air, a force unadorned by societal expectations. The herbal scent symbolizes authenticity and genuineness, providing Xiao Liu with solace and a connection to the untamed essence of freedom.
The Statue of Liberty: Pursuit of Freedom and Identity
Xiao Liu's reluctance to embrace her role as a princess sets the stage for the symbolism embedded in the Statue of Liberty. This iconic representation of freedom aligns with Xiao Liu's desire to break free from the predetermined constraints of her royal identity. The Statue of Liberty, a beacon of self-determination, becomes a metaphor for Xiao Liu's pursuit of independence. The scent of herbs, in this context, signifies the untamed and natural essence of freedom that Xiao Liu seeks, a liberation from the perfumed trappings of royalty.
Reluctance and Complexity: Herbal Scent and Royalty
The juxtaposition between the herbal scent and Xiao Liu's reluctance to be a princess underscores the internal conflict within her character. The herbal scent, associated with authenticity and simplicity, acts as a counterpoint to the artificiality often associated with royal life. This duality adds depth to Xiao Liu's character, portraying her not as a one-dimensional princess seeking freedom but as an individual navigating the complexities of personal identity and societal expectations.
Shi Qi as the Sun: Illumination and Guidance
The metaphorical role of Shi Qi as the sun introduces a layer of illumination and guidance into Xiao Liu's journey. The sun, a symbol of clarity, warmth, and the dispelling of darkness, aligns with Shi Qi's character. His presence becomes the guiding light that helps Xiao Liu navigate the uncertainties in her life. The loneliness mentioned in the narrative adds a layer of complexity, acknowledging the nuanced emotions at play in their relationship.
Completing the Circle: Symbolic Continuity
The recurring round element completes a symbolic circle, signifying Xiao Liu's continuous journey of self-discovery. This metaphor implies that her quest for freedom is not a one-time event but a cyclical process of redefining identity and aspirations. The interplay of these metaphors creates a dynamic narrative tapestry that explores universal themes of freedom, identity, and the interconnectedness of personal and shared experiences.
Conclusion:
In Tong Hua's masterful storytelling, metaphors become gateways to deeper understanding. The herbal scent, Statue of Liberty, and the sun, carefully woven into the narrative, enrich the exploration of freedom, identity, and the complexities of emotion within the context of Xiao Liu and Shi Qi's intertwined destinies. These metaphors serve as poignant reflections on the human experience, inviting readers to ponder the universal pursuit of liberation and self-discovery.

Unveiling Depths: A Comparative Literary Analysis of "He knew she was here, she knew he was here" & " I am Here" in Written and Visual Narratives
Chapter 11 - koala extract:
The next day, Xiao Liu slept til noon and found the entire residence empty as everyone went to watch the tournament. She didn’t feel like stoking the kitchen fires so ran off to eat street food.
She ate two bowls of clam leek soup and afterwards sat under the riverbank wall under the sun watching the activity on the river. A boat passed with a green robed man sitting with his back to Xiao Liu and he was enjoyed the view beside a blue robed man. The familiar figure was instantly recognizable as Jing, and since he couldn’t see Xiao Liu, then Xiao Liu stared at him directly.
Jing suddenly turned his head and looked at the shore. Xiao Liu didn’t move and just looked at him, not sure if he saw her. The boat moved past and the green disappeared into the distance.
He knew she was here, she knew he was here.

The intricate duet or pas de deux - between written narratives and visual adaptations opens a gateway to the profound intricacies within character relationships. The passage "He knew she was here, she knew he was here," from Chapter 11, delves into the subtle dynamics between Jing and Xiao Liu. This essay seeks not only to compare but to unravel the layers of meaning within the written passage and its TV show adaptation, concentrating on the pivotal phrase "He knew she was here, she knew he was here," and its visually charged counterpart, "I am here."
Written Passage:
The repetition of "He knew she was here, she knew he was here" weaves a subtle and intricate web of mutual awareness between Jing and Xiao Liu. This repetition is more than a mere acknowledgment; it hints at a profound connection that surpasses the limitations of spoken language. The careful use of pronouns underscores reciprocity, inviting readers to meditate on the unspoken bonds that tie these characters together. It goes beyond reassurance; it becomes a beacon of hope and solidarity, resonating with the audience on a visceral heartwarming level.
Development of Themes:
The comparison reveals a nuanced exploration of human connection through different literary lenses. Chapter 12
Xiao Jing
Fireworks suddenly hit up over the Chi Sui river and Xiao Liu squeezed to the edge to watch. Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple……all sorts of colors were rising from the sky from a ship. It illuminated two people standing at the bow of the ship very clearly. The man was wearing a blue robe, standing still and calm, like a bamboo in a forest. The woman was tall and wearing a red robe and appeared to be drunk. She looked up at the fireworks and teetered a few steps and almost tripped. The man reached out to stead her and she curled into his body like a beautiful vine flower.
The ship gradually moved off into the distance along with the fireworks so the spectators all dispersed. Xiao Liu remained at the river’s edge staring at the darkened river. It was strange, Yi Yang was not the most beautiful woman Xiao Liu had ever seen, but under the fireworks and the way she almost fell and then leaned into Jing, there was a woman’s elegance and beauty that struck Xiao Liu deeply. It made Xiao Liu, who had been living as a man for two hundred years, feel ashamed and envious.
It was deep into the night when Xiao Liu returned to the residence. When she walked in, Zhuan Xu was sitting under a lamp light reading a book and waiting for her. He patted the seat next to him “Where did you go?”
Xiao Liu smiled “I suddenly want to find a beautiful skirt to wear.”
.................................................“I’m afraid of disappointing you guys. And with your disappointment in me, I’ll be disappointed in you.”
“Who are the you guys? Me and Master? We will never be disappointed in you. If it includes other men….Xiao Liu…..” Zhuan Xu’s hand was on Xiao Liu’s shoulder “Don’t give yourself hope, then you won’t be disappointed.”
Xiao Liu burst out laughing “I thought you have a better tactic up your sleeve.
................................
Before the ship departed, a servant rushed up and bowed to Zhuan Xu before handing over a big basket “My lord bade me to give this as a parting gift for your journey home. If you visit Qing Qiu in the future, please contact the Tu Shan clan.”
Zhuan Xu accepted the gift “Please thank your master for me.”
Feng Long laughed “It’s a surprise to see you hit it off with Jing. That’s great!”
.....................................
Zhuan Xu opened the large basket sent by Jing and inside was all sorts of snacks and four jugs of wine. Ah Nian laughed “This appears to be perfectly tailored for Xiao Liu that lazy cat.”
Xiao Liu lazily propped herself up “Give me a duck neck.”
Zhuan Xu put the plate of duck neck where Xiao Liu could reach it and she grabbed one and munched. It tasted just like the flavor in Qing Shui Town, exactly the way Lao Mu made it. Xiao Liu picked up a jug of wine and tried it to discover it was her favorite plum wine from before. Xiao Liu sighed, unsure of whether her sigh was meant for herself or for Jing.
From these extracts, we see that Xiao Liu is a looking at a couple apparently Jing and Yi Yang. We c see that she felt envious and ashamed because YY looks feminine and her , Xiao Liu is far from it. She did not feel like that when looking at the other women around her just when looking at YY with Jing. This brought out her desire to wear a skirt = her desire to be feminine. She shared her worries with her cousin who reassured her, but "point out that if she was worried about other men" she should lower her expectation so to not be disappointed. We know from previous chapters she has shared with Jing her worries about not being beautiful.
Before leaving Jing sent a goodbye present to his Xiao Liu under the disguise of it being for all of them. When the basket is opened we see that the content is indeed catered for Xiao Liu as it contained what she likes. When Xiao Liu tasted the food and drink she noticed that it taste just like the way Ma lu make it and the wine is also the one she used to drink. Now what are the chances that Jing had asked Ma lu to cook this snacks for Xiao or he had learned under Ma Lu guidance to make those for her? From the text and from what we know so far about Jing , I would say 100%. We see again from the text, how much Jing cares for Xiao Liu. He did again a little act full of TCL that show how much he cares for her and want her to fell good. As we can see form Xiao Liu's reaction -she sigh" -she is content and pleased with the comfort this is bringing her. Jing has succeeded in his endeavour .
As the story progresses we see Xiao Liu's rebirth as she finally transformed into her real form with the help of the Royal mother. She is beautiful, perfect.
"Black hair like silk fell down her back like a waterfall, a small red peach blossom birthmark in the middle of her forehead, her eyes darting in anxiety like a little deer, afraid to meet anyone’s eyes. She was as exquisite as the morning dew on a peach blossom petal.
This is my Xiao Yao! Zhuan Xu’s heart thundered like the Spring storm passed and he couldn’t say a single word."
In conclusion, in love, all the little things count and slowly but surely Jing is working towards bringing comfort to his Xiao Liu even when he is not with her. They are acting like secret lovers and I love it. Zhuan Xu's love for Xiao Liu is revealed. From the way his heart is reacting, Zhuan Xu just fell in love with Xiao Yao. This is love at 1rst sight for him.
Now we have Tu Shan Jing, Xiang Liu and now Zhuan Xu who are in love with Xiao Liu/ Xiao Yao. Who will position himself deeply in her heart as her lover? So far Jing is the one she has been longing and is still longing for.
This is my 2 cents

Abstract

Xiao Liu smiled “I suddenly want to find a beautiful skirt to wear.”
Zhuan Xu said “Our grandmother is the most revered seamstress goddess in the entire world. All the most talented seamstresses and artisans have come from her disciples. I’ll have people make you countless beautiful skirts.”
Xiao Liu softly said “But I’m afraid that I won’t be used to it since it’s been so long since I wore a skirt.”
Zhuan Xu stared “What are you scared of?”
“I’m afraid of disappointing you guys. And with your disappointment in me, I’ll be disappointed in you.”
“Who are the you guys? Me and Master? We will never be disappointed in you. If it includes other men….Xiao Liu…..” Zhuan Xu’s hand was on Xiao Liu’s shoulder “Don’t give yourself hope, then you won’t be disappointed.”
.......
My Thoughts
Wen Xiao Liu'd Jealousy
This maybe probably the first time Wen Xiao Liu saw Jing with another woman in such a scene such as under the fireworks. Even when the woman might not be very beautiful Xiao Liu was sort of still jealous and envy. Moreover, this event had made Xiao Liu let that she wanted to wear skirts, women wear.
Insecurity
Wen Xiao Liu was still wondering if she would look ugly. To this Zhuan Xu had strongly answer looks didn't matter to him or her parents. He sort of warn Xiao Liu to not to give into or hope on others.
More Abstract
Before the ship departed, a servant rushed up and bowed to Zhuan Xu before handing over a big basket “My lord bade me to give this as a parting gift for your journey home. If you visit Qing Qiu in the future, please contact the Tu Shan clan.”
Zhuan Xu accepted the gift “Please thank your master for me.”
Feng Long laughed “It’s a surprise to see you hit it off with Jing. That’s great!”
The two men bid farewell and the ship slowly pulled away from the dock. Gradually land became further and further away, but Xing Yue remained standing by the dock.
....
Jing's Gift
Of course Jing might not be able to present himself to his Wen Xiao Liu at that moment. Nevertheless his care for her is just like in those times of Qing Shui town. He still knew what she likes and how she is. Therefore we can be the gift was made by himself. It might not be anything luxury. Because it's still food. But it's something that Wen Xiao Liu value.
In this chapter Jing and Xiao Liu did not get to meet. However, their longing still connect.
And Zhuan Xu was getting along with Chui Sui Fenglong and his sister, Chui Sui Xing Yue.
