Just bits and pieces from the novel for anyone who is interested.

About that green light emitting from the grave:

In the book, You Qin was smart enough to figure out very quickly that Ye Tan was not Qin Kui. But he pitied her so instead of turning her in, he agreed with her that she could live out her life in the heaven realm under the condition she would preserve chastity after his demise (never be involved with anyone or remarry again), obey the rules of the heaven realm and cut all ties with the Void realm.

At one point, Ye Tan asked You Qin if he had ever thought of what his future wife would be, and proceeded to tell him what she had dreamed of, which was quite an eye opener for You Qin. First she wanted to find one who was handsome to please her eyes; AND she wanted to also find one who was advanced in his cultivation to beat up whoever she asked him to; AND she wanted to find another one with a lot of money to buy her whatever she wanted; AND lastly she wanted one more who was romantic and humorous to entertain her. She was adamant the one with good cultivation can beat up the rich one if he didn’t let her spend the money. At this point, You Qin angrily responded with his famous line about sealing the tomb to prevent the green light from emitting, insinuating her cheating ways were making him a cuckold.

YQ’s view of YT:

YT was mischievous yet a striking beauty. YQ was noble, resolute and cold like his father, but he was attracted to YT from the get go. The second time they met, he noted quietly to himself that he had spoken more words during their encounter than he otherwise would have in a year.

Many times YQ found his mind wander, but he always managed to snap out of it and composed himself properly. The third time they met was on the day both Heaven and Void came to pick up the princesses. Unlike in the show, a fight did break out. YQ’s weapon was a string instrument. He held YT in his lap with her back against his chest, while he was up against three Void fighters, including WuDai. For a split second, he brushed against what felt like YT’s female form, and “his usually sharp mind send both his hand and his eyes to verify promptly”. The first thing came to his mind was that when she teased him during their last encounter, he had a quick glance but “it didn’t seem to be so…” This distraction caused him to miss a note, supposedly a first in his life. Wu Dai seized the opportunity to gain the upper hand. But YQ quickly recovered and won the fight. He was somewhat angry at himself. Afterwards, he wiped his weapon, not to rid of the blood but to clean where it had touched YT.

YT repeatedly tried to escape the heaven realm and often misbehaved. But the last straw that prompted YQ to plant that punishment in her was her lack of propriety. YT thought she could go home if she angered the heaven emperor. So she dressed up in a tight and revealing outfit to a dinner party held in her honor, showing lots of skin, head to toe. YQ came to pick her up unannounced. He was in awe of her beauty, something he had not seen in his 2700 years of existence. But as soon as he realized who it was, he went into a rage like he never had. He wanted to manhandle her, but had to quickly let go of her because his hand “felt burning” where it touched her beautiful and soft skin. He contemplated but rejected the idea of yanking her by the hair.

About QK’s punishments on CF:

QK was noble, kind and an eternal beauty. For Wu Dai, her serene and tender ways could “melt the hardest ice in existence”. For CF, if it wasn’t love at first sight, it was not far from it. QK held high regard for Wu Dai for his bravery. Her first impression of CF wasn’t so favorable. Unlike in the show, she often saw through him and wasted no time to punish his misdeeds.

In the book, CF didn’t swap the sisters and he didn’t know QK’s identity either at the beginning. Both him and YQ were quick to notice the oddity and figured out on their own early on.

Void and Heaven always collaborated in fixing Guixu, except the last time Void also attacked Heaven troop in the process. (Scums much?)

There was this meeting next to the lake to select a candidate to go to Guixu. Wu Dai was the only one who volunteered. He took great pride in dying for a noble cause, and was fearless. His mother died young, no one in the court cared to speak up in his best interest either. CF commented to Gu Hai Chao that his brother was simple and stupid, which was overheard by QK. She walked over to him, took his hand in hers, and patted on it gently. Then she walked away without saying a word. All CF could think of was how soft her hands were.

Soon after, he couldn’t move, and grass started to grow on him rapidly, poking through his clothes. When Gu Hai Chao turned around, CF was nowhere to be found, only a grassy hill stood in front of him. A pair of black eyes rolling left and right, peering through the grass. Gu Hai Chao tried to trim the bush down, which only made it to grow thicker. There next to the lake, CF and Gu Hai Chao stood, the soft spring wind blew, caressing CF’s grass.

QK send medicine to Wu Dai to heal his old wounds, hoping it would help better prepare him for Guixu. CF learned and inflicted 42 new wounds on Wu Dai under the pretense of training. QK called him out and berated him for being vile. CF’s response? He planted a kiss on her lips and took off running.

A few days later, he woke up feeling unwell, specially, he was nauseous. He was also hungry, but he was too nauseous to eat. Worse yet, he couldn’t stop vomiting bitter bile. His mom, the consort, took his pulse, and was taken aback. “My son, you are…expecting”.

She demanded to know whose child it was, and landed her glance on Gu Hai Chao, who was standing nearby. He immediately sworn on his life that he was innocent.

The consort recalled there was a river in the human realm that had the power to impregnate whoever entered it, but it was long lost. By now, she figured her son had a woman problem, and was less concerned. She offered, “You can carry to term and give birth. Mommy will help you to look after it. Your thoughts?”

Later on, when CF wanted to mess with the princess, Gu Hai Chao would remind him of this episode: “Do you want to carry another child?”

YQ and CF’s bromance:

When the sisters’ identities were revealed, YQ and CF decidedly fought their way out of their respective realm to bring the girls to safety, injuring themselves in the process. They run into each other and together took refuge in an inn while recouping. To their dismay, the rumors on the street were that the two princes fell in love while studying under the same teacher years ago, and they run away with each other to defy the arranged marriages.

The four took refuge in the beast realm. YQ and Di LanJue often had a go at each other out of jealousy. Once Di LanJue sent a painting to YQ. It depicted a romantic scene at a steamy hot spring under the moonlight, flowers blossoming, and…YQ and CF soaking in the water while gazing softly at each other.

About that forbidden fruit kiss:

Di Lan Jue took a good beating from his dad. He managed to run away, sneaked into Heaven Realm, and found YT. His back was still bleeding. YT undressed him to apply medicine.

YQ showed up unannounced. The scent of blood in the air alerted him right away. YT tossed Di Lan Jue out of the window before YQ entered, and quickly put on Di Lan Jue’s clothes, pretending it was her own. The moment YQ abruptly pushed open the bed chamber door, he sensed the shape of a “male” making his way to the door, seemingly attempting to escape. Instinctively YQ struck. As soon as he did, he saw it was actually YT running toward him. It was too late, YQ had no choice but to use his own body to absorb the force of his own attack to protect her. His injury wasn’t light, and he had to recover at her place so not to alert anyone (he was due to fix Guixu and he didn’t want to make it someone else’ burden).

The empress came to invite YT to harvest the forbidden fruit. Hearing his mother’s voice outside, YQ quickly took off his blood stained clothes and hid it. The empress felt something was amiss, and she suspected YT was hiding someone in her bedroom. She went straight in and flipped open the blanket. There he was, her own son, in YT’s bed, looking completely disheveled. YQ started to say something, but decided silence was gold. The empress wanted an explanation but got none. It certainly didn’t help the matter when YT offered: “it is exactly what it looks like.”

Later, YT managed to eat a bunch of the fruit she was tasked to count and bury under strict orders, before she learned what they actually were. It was evident when she returned to YQ, who immediately was under the spell of a sweet scent. He pulled her close gently, and kissed her, passionately, French style. By the time Man Man run into them, YQ already pressed YT onto the bed, still going at it with the kiss. YT stopped struggling once she figured out YQ had lost it. After a long while, YQ managed to pull himself together. With the last bit of strength he could control, he turned YT into a walnut.

YT spent the night as a walnut. Sometimes YQ would hold her in his hand and caress it (the walnut). Sometimes he would let go of her, allowing her roll around on the bed. The next morning, YQ woke up. YT rolled off his hand into the corner of the bed, turning her back toward him in anger. Unfortunately for her, her front and back looked the same - just a walnut. She reflected to herself that she was rolling all over the bedsheet all night, just not in the way it sounded like.

YQ got dressed slowly in silence, awkwardness assured.

YQ’s jealousy has no end:

If we had 80 episodes instead of 40, these funny bits from the book would probably make their way into the show, creating a smoother build up to the love confession.

A bit context…while YT pitied the fate of all three shards, La Mu was her one true love. She grieved for him and was heart broken. (Later on in the book, when YQ reflected on his relationship with YT, he acknowledged that he could never replace La Mu in her heart). YQ retained the memories of all three shards, but wasn’t as forthcoming with his feelings initially as it was depicted in the show.

- YQ was burning the fire of jealousy in his heart, when he recalled a particular piece of memory in which La Mu and YT got really frisky. He couldn’t fathom what would have had happened, if La Mu didn’t stop YT from undressing him.

- YT got drunk and called out for La Mu. YQ responded in his place and kissed her. Even in her drunken state, YT wasn’t having it. She told him off, shouting “you don’t even have red hair”, got really angry and scratched his face! Soon after, YQ faced off CF in battle. The latter couldn’t help but to tease YQ about the wound on his face that looked like it was “done by a woman”.

- YT, who was 15 in the book, was bullied by a 600 years old heaven realm born student in class and fell over. She didn’t think much of it but YQ learned of the incident. YQ wasted no time to show up in front the bully’s family, made the bully’s grandfather fall over with the same technique, and left without further explanation. The family scrambled to figure out what happened, beat the bully to a pulp, and made him kneel in front of YT to apologize the next day.

- YQ pursued YT and tried to create all sorts of opportunities to be close to her. He showed up to teach in YT’s class, and was particularly partial to practice “hands on” teaching with her, which led her to think he was being perverted. She told her sister and CF about it via their wireless communication, while YQ got an earful standing outside of her room.

- YQ took advice from CF on how to pursue YT

Some whole new level of crazies from the bygone years:

In the book, CF was 2800 years old and YQ was 2700. YQ didn’t cultivate in isolation for thousands of years, nor did he have social anxiety like in the show. No shards either. The three “shards” were 1700 years old and came into existence during another incident YQ experienced.

The two princes were sent to fix Guixu together, representing each realm. CF came back safe and sound, but YQ was mortally wounded, and passed away soon after. However, It wasn’t because of luck or skills.

CF’s mom was the key. The void consort, CF’s mom, was Heaven born. YQ’s dad was very much in love with her. They were to elope but he forfeited on his promise and married someone for political alliance. CF’s mom went to Void, but before she did, she took something from him, the most powerful item in the four realms that could even protect whoever entered Guixu.

Void king fell for her beauty. She was been assassinated by the Void queen as a result, and the Void clan wouldn’t accept her due to her Heaven born heritage. To survive and to solidify her position in Void, she did what she could and had a son with the Void king - CF - out of wedlock. When CF stepped up to go to Guixu, she finally took out that precious thing she stole to save her son’s life.

Meanwhile, the Heaven emperor hid the fact that this thing was stolen from everyone except a few, like his wife and YQ. So everyone assumed YQ would be safe. The empress was bitter that she was married to fulfill a role, but “never had a husband”, and was heart broken her son was sent to his death, paying the price for his father’s debt. YQ disregarded it all and had no regret to sacrifice for the greater goods.

When YQ jumped into Guixu, YT jumped in after him (it wasn’t for love. She had other motive, and was yanked back up by the emperor soon after). YQ looked back and saw her. He recalled YT once asked him if she was beautiful. That moment, he finally acknowledged to himself that words could not describe her beauty. When he came back from Guixu, with his dying breath, he loudly proclaimed he had lost the this powerful (yet stolen) thing in Guixu and asked his father for forgiveness, thus removing the emperor from taking any responsibility.

CF was fine. He stayed in Guixu longer to pretend he was having a hard time.

About that in-law relationship:

When the sister’s identities were revealed, CF and YQ fought their way out of their respective realms to bring the sisters to safety. The emperors were angry, but they still didn’t want to punish them severely. The Void emperor especially didn’t know what to do. He basically waited for the Heaven emperor to issue his orders of punishment, did a copy and paste, and passed that off as his own.

YQ and CF had to return to their realms because their mothers were kidnapped by THE villain. Afterwards, they received the blessing they wanted, and took terms visiting the human emperor to propose marriages. Unfortunately for them, the emperor was mad. He refused the marriages, and demanded the return of QK and YT. He was particularly angry at YQ…When YQ and YT came to him, he asked that YQ leave and YT stay. The latter agreed (she had her hidden agenda). YQ sensed YT was wavering - he was afraid she would change her mind. He wasted no time to bid the emperor a quick goodbye and disappeared in a jiffy without giving the emperor a chance to speak, taking YT along with him. The emperor was enraged and likened YQ to a gangster.

YQ and YT, near the end:

YT once jokingly asked YQ which one was more important, the four realms or her? YQ was silent. CF couldn’t help but give his unwanted advise, that he should be tactical when been prompted with such suicidal questions. YT noted to herself that the answer must had been the four realms.

When YT stabbed YQ, she told him that she did love him. But if she didn’t have him, she simply just wouldn’t be as happy. That was all. She betrayed him. For her, the lives of the sisters were above everything in the world. Just like that, she walked away without turning back, leaving him behind, bleeding severely, calling for her name.

The last time they met alone in person was at the stone house. YT wandered there without thinking. Although she had chosen her path and there was no turning back, she missed him, dearly. And there he was, through the window she could see him, walking toward the house. She rushed out the door and hugged him. YQ was equally stunned, he couldn’t help but to return the embrace. Little words were exchanged. On that cold winter night, they consummated their relationship in the stone house. Snow had fallen, wind blew bitterly. All that sorrow and despair were forgotten in the midst of passion, temporarily. The next morning, YQ got dressed quietly. YT sat up on the bed. Smiling, she asked if they could run away and grew old together. He was visibly shaken by the idea. For him, this meant a life of happiness. For him, this also meant a broken seal of Guixu, death befallen on four realms. “The four realms cannot be sacrificed for Li Guang Ye Tan.” The flicker of light in her eyes died with his words. She said quietly: “True.” They left the stone house separately, neither turned their head back once. Their footsteps in the snow led away from the house, diverging in the distance.

The last time YT saw YQ was in her dream. She was back at the stone house. He handed her a piece of meteor that evidenced the blood oath by the emperors of the four realms - the sisters were free to live. She became aware that her sister had drugged her, likely at his beckoning, and this was a dream. Angrily she asked why he would give it to her. “One night of company, it should be paid.” His words pierced her heart, a memory she cherished so dearly was been turning into something so disgusting. “It’s a good deal then.” She walked out of the house, tears in her eyes, never turning back.

CF asked YQ why he didn’t tell YT about his plan. He murmured…”If she knew, I would look forward for her to come see me, but I am afraid she would come. I am afraid she would cry, but I am also afraid she wouldn’t care. I am afraid she would find her happiness elsewhere, but I am more afraid she would be alone forever…” YQ asked CF to bury him at the stone house after his demise. “I wish to be…where I am closest to her.”

YQ saw her in his vision as his life was fading away. Still in that purple dress, she reached out to him, smiling. “Shao Dian You Qin, let’s leave together. Let’s forget about Guixu and the four realms…We can retreat to the forest where no one can find us, and grow old together. Shall we?” He reached out, took her hand, and left with her. His life had come to an end.

“Four realms cannot be sacrificed for Li Guang Ye Tan. But…Shao Dian You Qin can.”

I love these so much! Thank you!

Interesting that she loved La Mu best! In the series it felt like she loved him very much but it was a fond type of love. I can’t imagine them getting frisky based on the series.

Many of characters are different than how they are depicted in the show, La Mu is no exception.

In the book, he was a man of few words, but he was handsome and quick witted. So handsome that YT had a nosebleed the first time she saw him half naked. She thought to herself that he was too spicy for the eye, literally. (La is spicy, Mu is eye.) She told him to put his clothes back on before she went blind. But La Mu pointed out she was doing just fine, given she was staring at him without blinking.

When she was confronted with all three shards, YT kept on hiding behind La Mu, which reduced Wenren to tears.“Why do you keep on hiding behind him?  Couldn’t I have protected you too?”

La Mu was also the one who knew her the most. At one point, she was threatened by the villain, and was prepared to die herself instead of sacrificing the shards. She hid herself somewhere near the lake in an abandoned garden in the royal palace. La Mu was the only shard who knew where she would feel comforting and found her.

Oh wow! Now I am wishing they’d split the show into two parts so we could have had more of these scenes!

I am interested. Thanks lotlotlots
