Dear all,

I saw a lot of questions in the comment section about the connection between The Last Immortal (TLI) and its prequel Ancient Love Poetry (ALP)

The Last Immortal is adapted from Shen Yin (which means hidden god) and ALP was adapted from Shang Gu. Both novels were written by Xing Ling. She is working on Chasing Moon (Bai Shou) which is a sequel of Shang Gu, too.

In Shen Yin, the names of corresponding characters are kept the same. There are several characters in Shang Gu mentioned in Shen Yin. Keep in mind that ALP was not 100% followed the novel Shang Gu. The first 15 episodes of ALP is new creation which included Xuan Yi - the true god of ghost realm, a character in Shen Yi. While Shang Gu (or ALP) is about the love story between Bai Jue and Shang Gu (the two true gods), Shen Yin is about the development and love story between Yuan Qi (Bai Jue & Shang Gu's only son) and A Yin (Feng Yin).

I hope this topic is the place where we can share our knowledge of Shen Yi or The Last Immortal as well as its connection with Shang Gu and ALP.  They are fabulous novels and ALP is a good drama. It also helps drama viewers to understand the drama better.

Let's enjoy the dramas (and the novels) together!

It seems that there are only 2 true gods in The Last Immortal who are Yuan Qi's parents. In the novel, Shen Yin, there are 5 true gods: Bai Jue, Shang Gu, Tian Qi, Zhi Yang and Xuan Yi (ghost god who lives in Jiuyu).

Tian Qi is demon God who takes care of demon realm. He (together with people in Qing Chi palace such as Feng Ran) took care of Yuan Qi since he was born. Hou Chi died shortly after the delivery. And Shang Gu would wake up in Hou Chi's body after 100 years in coma (or sleeping). Ziyue mountain is the place where Jing Yuan (Tian Qi after reincarnating) lived and cultivated (in both ALP and Shen Yin novel). In TLI, Ziyue mountain was said as place whereYuan Qi's father cultivated.

In ALP, in the end, Bai Jue tried to repair his relationship with Yuan Qi and Yuan Qi acknowledged him as his father (before eps 48, Shang Gu told Yuan Qi that his father was Qing Mu althought they both knew Qing Mu and Bai Jue were one person). However, in the novel Shang Gu, Bai Yue never acted as father in front of Yuan Qi althought in his heart his son was the proudest thing in his life. He thought it was rather "never have" than "gaining but losing later" feeling. Hou Chi named the son Qi (弃)  which means "abandon" since his parents (Hou Chi and Qing Mu) "died". It was Tian Qi interprated Qi as 起 which mean begin/establish, similar to his name.

After Bai Jue's death, Shang Gu knew about the truth of his sacrifice, she was very grief and kneeled for 500 years in front of the ancestral god Stone for begging the rebirth of Bai Yue. In the novel, Shang Gu said she could not face Yuan Qi because of his appearance similarity to Bai Jue. During this time, Zhi Yang took care of Yuan Qi in the god realm. Yuan Qi was very active and he didn't know how to control his supreme  power. Yuan Qi had pure chaos power like Shang Gu's spiritual power (mixture of immortal and demon power). This kind of power is vital for life. Zhi Yang and Tian Qi decided to send Yuan Qi to Dong Hua's cultivation school under the name Gu Jin. Tian Qi changed his appearance and sealed his chaos power. Because of his special origin and context, he was loved and spoiled by his care givers such as Tian Qi, Feng Ran, Dong Hua and his senior "brothers" in Dong Hua's school. However, the parting from his parents was still carved in his mind and hurt him.

For those who are interested in what type of ending.

Shen Yin includes 2 epilogues where the main leads had happy ending.

This section is very helpful for people who haven't watched alp nd only starting from TLI

Honestly I believe The series producers did a fine job nd necessary requirements to create xuan yi as the first antagonist.. As he was basically the failure version of Shang gu.. He went towards the dark path which is devil.. Unlike Shang gu who chose to sacrifice herself for the three realms... The first 15 episodes also established a more firm relationship dynamics btw ICE CUBE ND SHANG GU

I agree with this. In the novel, Shang Gu was more mature than the drama Shang Gu. But it is very hard to convinced readers that Bai Jue admired and loved her for 130k years without saying anything to her. Ah, actually he told that to all the female gods who wanted to date with him and all of them kept that secret for him. He did not know Shang Gu's feeling for him before her sacrifice for the tribulation chaos. Drama Bai Jue is more human and somehow happier than the novel Bai Jue

Yup honestly those first 14 episodes are where they look full of happiness before all the sorrow nd pain... He told all female gods about his love towards Shang gu in novel, this totally contradicts with his character from ALP because  of how his character is shown he would never tell that to anyone... Instead will just ignore those admirers

However, in the novel, he was first mentioned in Shen Yin and he was created as God of ghost. He was more or less the same age with Zhi Yang. He somehow felt the ancestral God was discriminated. And later he asked Shang Gu the equality across all races in exchange of saving Yuan Qi. So he was not such bad villain. In addition, in God Bai Shou (Chasing moon), he came back to God realm and he seemed to go well with Zhi Yang

That's some interesting insight on his character.. In alp I believe he was a well constructed antagonist too before wu huan

Thank you for creating this discussion, definitely very useful to know its connection with ALP and how the characters’ background story has progresses from where it left off. This story definitely all about YQ and his trial to become a true God.

Note :- Drama adaptations always has some differences from novel that is normal and novels will always have more details than drama its impossible to include everything that is their in the novel to dramas as they don't have that much time or episodes.

In my opinion, ALP was loosely adapted from the original work. The additional part about Shang Gu's training make the story more complete.

Some information about Qing Lin in The Last Immortal with regard to relationship with Yuan Qi.

Her corresponding character in the novels (Shen Yin and Shang Gu) as well as in ALP is Qing Li.

In the novel Shang Gu, she was sentenced by Shang Gu (Yuan Qi's mother) to be exciled in Jiuyu (Ghost realm) until the soul of all soldiers who were killed by her use of abyss flowers could return. This is almost impossible. Meaning, she was exciled in the ghost realm forever. Thus, she had deep hatred to Shang Gu and wanted to revenge by harming Yuan Qi in Shen Yin novel.

However,in ALP, Qing Li died in episode 42 when Jing Yang attacked demon race using abyss flowers.

In terms of series when do you think or estimate in which ep this will happen her dying
