The ancient Chinese text "Taiping Guangji" includes a story about the Fox Loong.

A long time ago, a male white fox lived at the base of Lishan Mountain, stirring up trouble for the villagers, who couldn't seem to get rid of it.

During the Tang Dynasty, the fox went to a hot spring to bath. Suddenly, clouds gathered, and it transformed into a white loong, soaring into the sky. From then on, whenever it rained, people would spot the white loong flying above the mountain.

One day, an old man arrived at Lishan and was heard crying late at night. Curious, someone asked him why he was weeping. The old man replied, "I'm mourning the fox loong's death." The person asked, "What is the fox loong, and why are you mourning it?"

The old man explained, "The fox loong is a loong transformed from a fox. It can only live for three years after becoming a loong. I am its son."

The person then asked, "How can a fox turn into a loong?"

The old man answered, "This fox was born with pure energy from the west, its fur was white, and it kept apart from ordinary foxes. It lived at Lishan for over a thousand years and even mated with a female loong. So, Heaven transformed it into a true loong, just as some people can become saints!"

After this, the old man disappeared.
