@Pranksalot
LG is the king of Corea, not Korea so he has no jurisdiction unless it turns out TE is a Corean as I predicted haha But still citizen of corea or not, it’s just good manners not just lg but also te. TE should also let her dad know about his prospective son-in law. It’s kind of interesting that there has been a lack of scenes with her and her dad haha
That is such an interesting suggestion that it’s their son that rescues young LG but I doubt it because it’s late into the show and it wouldn’t make sense with what has been provided so far.— Btw did you see the teaser clip I posted? It looks like it’s lee Gon that saved himself right? Based on his clothing?

You have a point about jurisdiction. And it's best to have parental blessing :)

Holy smokes, that's him, the cap and black coat! I can't believe they're gonna reveal the savior already! I'm not yet ready! No wonder they postponed this, I think they know  lot of viewers are like me. We don't want this to end yet :(

One of the things I love about this series is the love story of Lee Gon and Tae-eul. I am seeing contradictory comments about it all over social media. Some complain the romance is rushed, others say it is forced, still others keep complaining about their lack of chemistry. What do you think?

The key scenes of romance are very good, both in the direction and performance of the actors.
However, as you mention, the romance fails to reach the audience.
It's even one of the most common criticisms of this drama.
So there are reasons for this, and they are manifold.
Avoiding spoon-feeding the audience is not a quality factor.
On the contrary, it is counterproductive in an already complex story.
As one thinks is doing something clever, one is doing something stupid.

The international audience loves it. Personally, I find it exciting, to piece clues together. The same style of writing is applied throughout the drama, not just the romance aspect. After a while it becomes second nature. For example, when Lee Gon proposed to Tae-eul in episode 2, the clue that this is a big deal and not to be taken lightly is that he has been avoiding getting married back in Corea to such extent that Lady Noh has been putting talismans all over his bedroom. And considering that a very pretty woman  in the person of Seo-ryeong is obviously interested in him, he must have really liked Tae-eul to propose to her instead. Another example, if you have not paid attention to his conversation with Tae-eul in the bamboo forest where she quoted one of Kim So Wol's poems, you would probably be one of those who would wonder at the relevance of that scene at the bookstore when he bought the poet's book and probably be bored. It showed he was attentively listening to her, though he bought the book for Lady Noh.  There are several of these seemingly irrelevant scenes that turn out to be important to understanding the different aspects of this drama, like their romance. One just needs to be observant. This is why those who like the drama never find it boring.

 pcharlotte787:

Questions:
1. At the kitchen when LG had a navy uniform on while cooking, was he going to propose? Did JTE know he was going to? He had said previously he would wear his navy uniform when he proposes to the love of his life. Was that why she hesitated outside the door?

2. Could LG and JTE have gotten married at the church? LG asked the priest, "Are you good at keeping secrets, by any chance?" The priest answered, "God told me to set a guard over my mouth and keep watch over the door of my lips" before LG asked him to take a photo of him and JTE. The conversation between LG and the priest about keeping secrets seemed too heavy for just a photo.

2. so last episode they didn’t get married at the church after all unless Lee Gon is lying to his secretary when she asked about when to hold the wedding. He said that she hasn’t accepted his proposal. —so why did lee gon tell the priest to keep it a secret that they were at the church on the last episode?

what episode was that? i'm gonna check out that scene again.

I agree, LG telling Secretary Mo that JTE has not accepted his proposal shut the theory of the marriage down. In a way, I was relieved KES did not copy Game of Thrones  :)

@Baek In Ho

what episode was that? i'm gonna check out that scene again.

In episode 3, when LG and JTE were in the bamboo forest, they had this conversation:
JTE: What's your name then? Why ask when you don't know yours?
LG: I never said I don't know. You just can't say it even if I tell you
JTE: Are you the poet Kim So-wol?
LG: Who's Kim So-wol?
JTE: You're really good at pretending. I won't "finish the last words I had in my heart", so stop being nosy about my life.

Then towards the end of the episode, before LG went back to his world, he was shown in a bookstore or a library looking for a book. While a sublime music was playing in the background, Lady Noh's voice could be heard reciting Kim So-wol's poem Invocation of the Dead while LG was reading:
Oh, shattered name
Oh, the name that parted in the air
Oh, the name without an owner
The name I will die calling
I could not finish the last words
I had in my heart
The one I loved
The one I loved

This scene broke me because it felt like a clue to a bad ending, though I'm hoping that while KES made us think the ending might be bad, she had actually cooked up a twist.

But aside from the premonition of a sad ending, this also showed that LG pays attention to what she says.

@pcharlotte787

About sad ending. Take a  look at the audio-montage I made after ep4 :

Read the description of vod on Vimeo to understand why you can expect a sad ending.

Have a good day ! :-D

Thanks, this is a great analysis. I did wonder about the many times she said, "it's ok".

I'm still hoping KES would not leave the fans of this series heartbroken :)

EPISODE 13

In Corea, Lady Noh told TE, "Since the moment your ID card fell into the hands of His Majesty, you have been the one guiding him to his fate".

TE tried to locate Lee Lim's portal based on what she remembered during her kidnapping, when she smelled something like cinnamon upon waking up. But LG told her that even if they knew where LL's bamboo forest was, they would not be able to post guards there due to the time-freeze; He told her time was stopping longer whenever the portal opened.  At the moment, time was stopping for over an hour. So guards posted there would be in danger as LL would be the only one moving.

TE's heart broke upon realizing LG was alone whenever time froze. He told her she was with him a couple of times it happened. LG told her time stopped because "the Manpasikjeok is split in half, only half its power is being used, so the dimensions are falling apart". She figured the flute could be made whole if LG would take LL's half or LL would take LG's half.  LG suggested a third option - stop LL from taking half of the Manpasikjeok.  If LG could find a time axis in the gate, he could go back to the night of the assassination.

Before TE left Corea, she and LG watched dawn breaking together in the gate, where she scattered magic lily seeds.

When TE arrived in Korea, she realized her doppelganger Luna had been pretending to be her, living in her house, duping her dad, Jeong Do In, as well as Shin-jae.

The following day, she found LG about to have breakfast with her dad. When Do In noted her glowing skin and asked if she had a boyfriend, she was about to deny it when a look on LG's face made her blurt out, "Yes. I got a boyfriend. He's here."

LG stood up and told Do In, "I wanted that announcement to be sweet and emotional, but I guess it's too late. But the point is the same either way. I like your daughter a lot. I'm Lee Gon. Nice to meet you, sir.

Do In asked, "Who really are you?"
TE answered, "Dad, can't you just tell? You can tell just by looking at this face. He's a decent guy."

Before going off to work, TE asked LG to stay for the day then gave him a black plain jacket so he would not stand out.  LG had the feeling he had seen the jacket before.

In his hotel, while waiting for Jo Yeong to come back from buying soju, LG put on the black jacket. TE arrived with some drinks. While they were drinking and talking, LG noticed something off with TE and remarked, "I thought I wouldn't be fooled, but that face is my one weakness. You have a look of anxiety. Something that Tae-eul doesn't have. You're not Jeong Tae-eul. You must be Luna."

He saw his reflection in the glass windows and remembered the night of the assassination. He realized he was his own savior before falling on the floor, poisoned.

EPISODE 14

Jo Yeong found LG on the floor while Luna rushed out of the hotel room. Jo Yeong called TE up who was at the care center investigating the disappearance of the PM's doppelganger. TE, in turn called up Ms Kim, asking her to help LG who could not be taken to the hospital as he was an unregistered resident.

At the clinic of Ms Kim's friend where LG was taken for treatment, Jo Yeong refused to let TE see LG telling her the person who poisoned LG looked exactly like her and there was no guarantee she was not Luna.

LG woke up to the sound of the flute and left the clinic without being able to talk to TE. He went inside the portal. Lee Lim, who had figured out LG saved himself also went to the portal. When they were both in the gate, the Manpasikjeok became whole and the time axis formed. They were both taken to the night of treason. Lee Lim visited his young self who refused to do the coup with him and killed him. The treason happened as it did in episode 1.

LG emerged from the portal into the bamboo forest park in 1994. He figured out that since he only had half of the flute, he can only travel laterally. It would be roughly four months in the gate before he can catch up to 2020. He visited 5-year-old TE telling her he was on his way to her. At that moment, TE in 2020 recalled the new memory of meeting LG when she was five and realized he had traveled back to the night of treason.

In 2016, LG again visited Tae-eul telling her, "We'll meet again in Gwanghwamun Plaza. I'll be wearing a jacket with a lot of buttons, and I'll be there with Maximus. Can you try to be a little friendlier to me when we meet again? And make some more time for me. We don't have much time."

When she asked, "Why will we meet again?"
He answered, "Because that's our destiny."

In 2020, TE finally met Luna who immediately stabbed her. As TE lay bloody on the street, she remembered her first meeting with LG. This time, she was the one who hugged him when she realized, "When it's fate, there are no coincidences. It is inevitable by nature, but when you realize its meaning, it's always too late."

EPISODE 15

At their second "first" meeting,
TE: You really came to Gwanghwamun. And you're wearing a jacket with a lof of buttons.
LG: This is strange. You seem to know me.
TE: Let's skip that. If I don't do this now, I'll probably regret it later.

And she hugged him.

In 2020, bystanders saw the bloody TE and she was brought to the hospital. She sneaked out of the hospital and saw Shin-jae apprehend Luna. At the police station, TE found out Luna had cancer, Luna avoided stabbing her organs and did not stab her deep enough to kill her because Luna did  not want to upset her dad.

When TE went back to the hospital, LG was finally able to catch up with her time. LG stayed with her at the hospital where they reminisced the times he visited her when she was 5 and 27. He told her he was happy she hugged him at Gwanghwamun. She asked him whether he remembered what happened to them after that. He closed his eyes in a sign of assent.

TE's narration, "Unlike the first time, I believed half of his claims about being the king of the kingdom, understood the concept of parallel worlds a bit faster, and went to his world a little earlier. I still bought flower seeds and scattered them, and decided to embrace my fate a little earlier, but what was bound to happen happened anyway, and ironically, the tragedy came earlier as well."

At the hospital, LG attended to TE, drying her hair, pushing her wheelchair, going to the chapel with her and feeding her. When it was time for him to go, she refused to let him leave knowing he was planning to go back to the past and keep Lee Lim from going to Korea in which case she would not be able to remember him. If their worlds flow differently from the present, then she would live without knowing him. He told her many things had gone wrong in their world and that was the only way. So he begged her to tell him to leave. He was asking for somebody's permission for the first time in his life.

She told him, "Tell me you'll come back. That's the 10th rule. No matter what happens, you have to come back. That's the 11th rule. Catch Lee Lim, and even if the door closes, open all the doors in the universe and return to me. Promise me. That's the 12th rule."

LG promised, "I'll open all the doors in the universe. And I promise I will return to you.

LG, Jo Yeong and Shin-jae were able to overpower Lee Lim. Shin-jae volunteered to escort Lee Lim past his door, possibly condemning himself to die.

The flowers LG gave to TE while he was in another time in his ceremonial coat disappeared. She tried to convince Lee Lim she should be the one to go with him as she was afraid LG would be lonely by himself, that their worlds would continue on. When she could not get an answer from Lee Lim, she begged Shin-jae to let her have the Manpasikjeok. Shin-jae refused to let her escort Lee Lim and possibly die, confessing his feelings for her. She continued to beg him to let her have the Manpasikjeok.

Close to the appointed time to meet at the gate, TE drove to Lee Lim's gate, wearing the necklace LG gave her.

LG and Jo Yeong entered LG's door.

I think this song suits Lee Gon's feelings for Tae Eul ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

*Lyrics*

Maybe it's intuition
But some things you just don't question
Like in your eyes, I see my future in an instant
And there it goes
I think I found my best friend
I know that it might sound
More than a little crazy but I believe I knew I loved you before I met you
I think I dreamed you into life
I knew I loved you before I met you
I have been waiting all my life
There's just no rhyme or reason
Only the sense of completion
And in your eyes
I see the missing pieces I'm searching for
I think I've found my way home
I know that it might sound
More than a little crazy but I believe I knew I loved you before I met you
I think I dreamed you into life
I knew I loved you before I met you
I have been waiting all my life
A thousand angels dance around you
I am complete now that I've found you I knew I loved you before I met you
I think I dreamed you into life
I knew I loved you before I met you
I have been waiting all my life I knew I loved you before I met you
I think I dreamed you into life
I knew I loved you before I met you
I have been waiting all my life I knew I loved you before I met you
I knew I loved you
I knew I loved you before I met you
I knew I loved you I knew I loved you before I met you
I knew I loved you before I met you
I knew I loved you

Wow, this exactly describes Lee Gon's feelings.  It  sounds like the story was based on this song. Thanks for sharing this :)

EPISODE 16

TE accompanied the handcuffed Lee Lim to his side of the gate and kept him there at gunpoint, making sure he did not go back to 1994. She took his half of the Manpasikjeok. LG and Jo Yeong went back to the scene of treason in 1994. While LG focused on pursuing Lee Lim, Jo Yeong saved young LG, taking several bullets. The pieces of the Manpasikjeok in LG's and TE's hands disappeared.

The 2020 Lee Lim figured his 1994 self got hold of the whole Manpasikjeok and told TE, "Gon can never come back and you're stuck here with me for an eternity. " TE tried to shoot him but her gun would not fire. As the taunting Lee Lim walked towards her, the imaginary flower she planted in Korea sprouted. The next time she fired her gun, she shot him in the heart. The photos and balloons in the gate disappeared.

Meanwhile, LG overpowered the 1994 Lee Lim who realized he was the grown-up crown prince. LG recited the duties of the king, "A sage is moved to defeat the evil of the mountains and streams. Wield it with deep thoughts and make things right", then sentenced the traitor Lee Lim to a beheading. He carried out the sentence with the Four tiger Sword.

The yoyo boy is shown saying, "I thought this would break." A seemingly teenage version of him continued, "But it sprouted instead. The door will close and only the memories will remain... Should I break it?" The yoyo boy responded, "Or just let it be?"

1994 Corea got reset with no trace of Lee Lim's interference. After Lee Ji-hun's dad had an accident, his mom, Song Jeong Hye, took his invalid uncle to a care center as she could not take care of him while working. Prince Buyeong stopped the mom of Kang Hyeon-min (Corean Shin-jae) from committing suicide with her son. Hyeon-min grew up to be a cop at Haeundae Police Station. In 1999, Koo Seo-ryeong caught Luna stealing her mom's money but her mom gave Luna food and money and eventually adopted her, naming her Koo Seo-gyeong. Seo-ryeong became an assemblywoman who, in 2022, went to jail for stealing people's tax money. Seo-gyeong became a cop working under Hyeon-min.

On April 25, 2020, TE got out of the gate and woke up in the bamboo forest with her memories of LG intact. She once met Ji-hun in military uniform and was heartbroken when the LG look-alike did not recognize her. Meanwhile, LG kept opening the doors of the universe to look for her, encountering several versions of her in parallel worlds.

One night in 2021, Nari called TE up, asking if her dad was buying a horse as a guy on a white horse was at the Taekwondo center. When they met, LG was surprised TE recognized him. They hugged and declared their deep love for each other. From then on, they met every week-end at King Haejong's obelisks in the bamboo forest from where they traveled to different points in time and space, making sure they did not meet their counterparts.

One time they went to a parallel world headed by a tyrant version of LG. They figured the tyrant must have had a bad upbringing, without somebody like Lady Noh and Prince Buyeong and without someone's ID card, thus was scared and lonely while growing up.

One time they were in Korea, LG met young Shin-jae playing with his baseball in the street. LG talked with him, averting the accident that brought about the boy's coma. In 2022, LG met Shin-jae who had grown up to be an important corporate figure. LG also talked to Eun-sup who did not recognize him. Eun-sup was then working at NIS and probably married to Nari.

LG remembered his promise to introduce Prince Buyeong to the girl who argued the earth was flat and made it possible for TE to meet his uncle, though the latter was unaware of it.

They once ended up in LG's palace grounds and made sure nobody saw her face and that she did not leave any marks of her presence there. While checking the security footage to make sure she was not captured on camera, they saw Jo Yeong and Myeong Seung-a touch hands as they walked past each other in the hallway.

LG and TE continued traveling through space and time. They vowed:
TE: No matter what kind of a door opens before us in life...
LG: And even if the moments we share make us sad at times
TE and LG: I wish to be able to love tirelessly

LG left with these words, "Just like that, we decided to love the fate that chose us. Just for today and only today. And Forever."
