[Episode 12]

Happiness
by Na Taejoo

It's not about where we were yesterday
and it's not about where we'll be tomorrow.
It's just about where we are today.
And, you.

A Poor Love Song for the Young Person Next Door
by Shin Kyungrim

Why wouldn't a poor an know how loneliness feels?
In the snow-covered alley on my way back from parting ways with you
the blue moonlight shines onto the street.

Why wouldn't a poor man have any fears?
When I open my eyes to the sound of the clock,
the sound of neighborhood patrol and the sound of the buckwheat jelly,
I hear the sound of the heavy machine go round in the distance.

Why wouldn't a poor man long for anyone?
I try repeating, "Mother, I miss you" countless times
and I try to imagine the sound of the wind
against the only persimmon that remains on the persimmon tree.

Why wouldn't a poor man know about love?
The warmth of your lips that kissed my cheeks.
The sound of your breathing, that told me you loved me.
The way you burst into tears when I turned around.

Why wouldn't a poor man know?
Because I'm poor.
I must abandon all of this.

Thank you all for this great idea!!!

Episode 12

Happiness

by Na Tae Joo

It's not about where we were yesterday

and it's not about where we will be tomorrow

It's just about where we are today

and, you.

[Episode 13]

Us
by Lee Ji Hyun

You're spring and I'm the flowers.
That's why I can't even see the cherry blossoms.

I'm spring and you're the flowers.
That's why you're all that I can see.

We are the flower fields and we are spring.

Going Home
by Kim Yoon Ah

On the way back home
I leave my heart to the setting sun.
And I think about thw work that you do
and feel sad due to countless thoughts.

Since there's no way of knowing
what will happen tomorrow,
I can only embrace your back
and tell you that everything will be okay.

I feel like there's more that I can do for you as I grow impatient,
I feel sad for your heavy shoulders and long days.

I hope something good happens to you tomorrow.
Because you deserve it.
I hope you unload your burdens and become happy again.
I earnestly pray for it.

Life is Like an Installment Savings Account
by Kim Shi Tak

Life is like an installment savings account.
Pay the principal, pay the interest,
and if you miss the deadline,
pay the overdue fees.
An installment savings account can be cancelled
if it gets too overwhelming,
but when life gets too exhausting,
can we cancel it midway?
If we calculate the years we've lived
and return the years left to live,
are we able to cancel it?
Will we be able to get a cancellation refund?
Life is like a lifelong redeemable bond.

Lily Magnolia
by Do Jong Hwan

I was happy because I met you.
And I also suffered because I met you.
When I tossed and turned in bed while hugging a body
that no longer had feelings for me.
I felt flower petals falling on my head from above me.
In a garden where lily magnolias bloom
after the white magnolias wither away.
The thought of lily magnolias blooming again
pained me a great deal.
As I watched the tree and flowers gradually part ways.
It was difficult to stand beside the tree.
It's like watching yourself become a cruel person.
I was happy because I met you.
And I also suffered for a long time because of you.

This discussion has made me want to watch this drama.

[Episode 15]
(these ones really got me)

From Ki Min Ki's The Road to Seoul

To the magpie that came every morning and sang before you left.
Once i leave, come back and comfort my parents.

Who will take care of my old parents after I leave?
Why is my trip back to Seoul so long?

I thought it was okay for mothers to do that
by Shim Soon Deok

I thought it was okay for mothers to do that.
Even if she works herself to death on the farm fields.

I thought it was okay for mothers to do that.
Even if she sits on the furnace and eats a cold bowl of rice for lunch.

I thought it was okay for mothers to do that.
Even if she does laundry with her bare hands and cold water on a winter day.

I thought it was okay for mothers to do that.
'I'm full. I'm not hungry.' Even when she starves while feeding her family.

I thought it was okay for mothers to do that.
Even if her heels are so worn out that they make noises in her blanket.

I thought it was okay for mothers to do that.
Even if her fingernails are so worn out that they can't even be clipped.

I thought it was okay for mothers to do that.
Even if father's anger and our rebellion don't phase her.

I thought it was okay for mothers to do that.
'I miss your grandmother. I miss your grandfather.'
I thought those were just complaints.

She woke up in the middle of the night and cried in silence.
When i saw that ...
Ah! It was not okay for mothers to do that.

[Final Episode]

At Seonunsa Temple
by Choi Young Mi

It may be hard for a flower to bloom,
but it withers away in an instant.
Without the time to take a careful look,
without the time to think of you,
it withers away in an instant.
Just like when you first bloomed within my heart.
I wish I could forget you just as quickly.
You smile from afar.
You go over the mountain.
It may be easy for a flower to wither.
but it takes forever to forget it.
It truly takes forever.

In Yongsan
by Oh Gyu Won

There are still old-fashioned people in this world
who believe that poems contain spectacular stories.
There's nothing special in poems.
It only contains our lives that are the least bit spectacular.
It only contains the fantasies of people we can't seem to abandon.
Just like how our foolishness grows inside our will and ideals.
As well as your love and trust.
As well as my morals and my certainty of them.
They're just as uncertain as they are certain.
And on the beautiful grass...
weeds grow.
What's uncertainty and love like?
There's nothing special in poems.
It only contains our lives which remain.
And our lives which remain...
are encountered by us all the time.
In a way that is the least bit spectacular.
You may not want to believe it.
But it is in no way spectacular.

"Poets, write poems about our lives that are in no way spectacular."
-Jung Jae Chan's Listening to You

"The fact that someone comes                                                                                                                                                       to your life                                                                                                                                                                                                   is a tremendous feat.                                                                                                                                                                 Because he                                                                                                                                                                                            and his past                                                                                                                                                                                               his present                                                                                                                                                                                                and even the future come with him.                                                                                                                                           A whole another life that you never knew                                                                                                                            also comes with him .                                                                                                                                                                     The fragile heart                                                                                                                                                                               that comes along would have been broken-                                                                                                                     that heart whose fine layers                                                                                                                                                              the wind will likely be able to trace.                                                                                                                                                If my heart could mimic that wind it can become a hospitable place"                                                                       -The visitor (jung hyun jong)

Don't remember the ep, but this poem is from "Because this is my first Life"

BTW I like this thread a loooot, it would have been nice to keep it alive maybe we can also use kdrama quotes which are meaningful like the voice overs in Misaeng.  Or just other Korean translated poems. Anyway It was nice to discover this thread. Great job y'all.

Thank you for the addition. The poem is indeed beautiful.

And your idea is quite interesting, except those quotes would be unrelated to this drdrama and it will be a hassle to always come back here. Maybe it would be better to create discussion threads on those dramas. But wait, does that mean i have to rewatch Misaeng now?! *giggles* That was a great one, easily in my top 3.

** I think there might also be some threads related to quotes in the forums section. But i think there it would be even harder to follow.
