Boys over Flowers - Gotta suspend belief with multiple suspension bridges to remotely believe the main female lead would be romantically interested in a guy who essentially terrorized a school for fun using his status and tried to emotionally destroy her because she was a challenge.  - u/Treaya

Boys Over Flowers - An over-the-top high school drama also known as one of the classics that got many viewers to get into KDramas and Lee Min-Ho. From the acting to the ML's mom being a terrible villain, everything was so over-the-top especially the FL's character and acting. 100% Blade Man. Definitely not a drama for everyone, and I feel like it's one you either love or hate, but I am firmly in the love category. It's like campy, cheesy sci-fi/comic book style meets melodrama, and nearly every character is completely over the top. Angry rich male lead is VERY angry, evil characters are extremely evil, loyal secretary is ridiculously loyal, etc. Also, when it's cheesy, it's not just a little cheesy, it's full blown, quirky, not even trying to be realistic, absurd, extreme cheese, and it works for me.  - u/wanderingjinny

Good Manager - It's a comedy crime drama where the humor and the ML's character was too over-the-top. Most of the funny scenes were either over dramatic or just extremely cringe. The ML's character was also very over-the-top but this one's a must watch if you love a bad/corrupt guy turning into a nice guy. High School King of Savvy - A high schooler impersonating his older brother who's missing, in an office full of unsuspecting adults, falls in love with a significantly older female worker. That's one crazy, over the top premise that actually works!  Seo In Guk is clearly in his right element, switching between his outfits while trying to juggle his two very different lives until it all seems to fall apart. Can he continue after being exposed? What about the woman he loves? What about his brother? As all these questions are being answered, we're being rewarded by countless opportunitites to laugh uncontrollably and a one VERY memorable wedding scene, a parody on korean "quick" culture.

Doctor Stranger. Takes-itself-seriously over-the-topness. Jaw-dropping, overdone, preposterous plot. But!  Mostly free of the offensive gender dynamics of the makjang classics! The female lead suffers, but not because of evil mothers-in-law, sadistic boys, and mean girls. Instead, she's abused by stereotypical North Korean baddies! - u/olddogma

Kill Me, Heal Me. Mental health misinformation over-the-topness. When traumatized people develop alternate personalities to emotionally survive, killing off those personalities would be a psychic horror. It would be like committing suicide, or chopping off your own leg because you have a limp. People with Dissociative Identity Disorder/Multiple Personality Disorder are not possessed by demons: their alters are them. Not to mention that being in a relationship with a patient is inherently an abuse of power.  - u/olddogma

Perfume - A comedy that straight out challenges current Korean beauty standards and actually pulls it off! Thanks to a bottle of magic perfume, a severely overweight and suicidal housewife gets a second chance at life. As catwalk model in training she meets the man she can't help but fall in love with. Will she continue as a beautiful model or come back to her former self? Will she finally forgive herself and accept her appearance no matter which it finally is? Will her man still love her?

If you are curious enough to watch Perfume, I promise you abundance of laughter mixed with occasional tears. It neatly fits into the "over the top" category so on behalf of the main couple... enjoy! - u/imerremi

A Korean Odyssey/Hwayugi  comes to mind. Most characters have very "present" personalities and clash constantly, the story is an absolute wild ride and even visually this drama is over the top with its fashion, indoor design & CGI.  - u/Turquoise-Turmoil

King2Hearts - The premise is already a bit unusual, but what really puts this drama into the Over-the-Top category are the Villains!  The Big Baddie is a megalomaniac magician, accompanied by his pouty European side-kick and sadistic Aussie torturer.  A three-pronged threat to the entire world, but mostly to the modern-day King of South Korea. - u/LcLou02

Extraordinary you - The FL is such an OTT character but damn she is the soul of the show. The story is about this female lead who comes to know that she is a character inside a Manga and that she isn't the main character in it but an extra. The other OTT ness is that the Manga story resembles Boys over Flowers and F4 concept. Its a fun show to watch.  - u/goldenbeee

The Last Empress- Korea is obviously not a kingdom, but an empire, and the ruling family does everything to stay on top. What happens when an ordinary girl is married in to this? The drama peters out a bit towards the end – the problem of adjusting the script to the taste of the audience – but it is still very much worth it. - u/the-other-otter

Potato Star - When you have to live in the garage of your employer. When the cold, efficient chaebol son becomes like a child and the spoiled rich girl likes someone without money. The music video with cockroaches from Jang Kiha comes from this drama. Comedy. - u/the-other-otter

Pyschopath Diary - Amnesia makes the weakest man ever believe he is the worst serial killer. Quite over-the top, both acting and story, but fun. - u/the-other-otter

Dinner Mate - What makes this drama Extra is the Exes!  It starts as a very clever, mature rom-com, but over the course of the drama, the melodramatic stories of the two obsessed exes take over.  The main couple kept me coming back for more, just be warned that the tone changes.  I still gave it an 8/10 as there are bright spots throughout and some really good conversations.  - u/LcLou02

So I Married an Anti-fan - the second leads were just so over the top. Over-acting, threats of suicide, just utterly melodramatic where they didn't even have personalities, they were just a ball of emotional reactions.  - u/caninedesign

City Hunter - It's an action crime thriller with minimal romance but the action got a bit too over-the-top sometimes. While most of the times it was hilarious, it was also "cool" considering it's a pretty old drama. I would recommend it as it's one of the good works of Lee Min-Ho and although the story is too short for a 20-episode drama, it still does wonders.  - u/Fatooz

My Roommate is a Gumiho - It's an over-the-top rom-com which gets a bit too cute especially with the second leads. Story wise it's pretty basic but if you like over-the-top romance then this one's for you.  - u/Fatooz

Secret Garden - An over-the-top fantasy rom-com where the drama was just too much to digest sometimes. Especially all the "wrist grab" scenes and the dramatic scenes were quite a treat to watch. I would highly recommend this as it's so hilarious despite being so OTT concept wise and story wise. The main leads' chemistry is electrifying though.  - u/Fatooz

What's Wrong With Secretary Kim - Another one of the extremely over-the-top rom-coms where the romance gets a bit too cheesy for the main leads being 30+. If you like super cheesy dramas where the romance is too much to take in then this one's for you.  - u/Fatooz

My Only Love Song - Everything in this drama is over-the-top. From the acting to the characters to the storyline to the VFX, everything is so OTT that you'll either find it extremely hilarious or awkward. Personally, I enjoyed this drama a lot, it was SO HILARIOUS and the chemistry between the main leads was great! Definitely recommended if you're interested in this over-the-top genre.  - u/Fatooz
