Born in China in 1929, Helen Li Mei moved to Hong Kong in 1949. She became an actress who appeared in over 50 Hong Kong films. She was also a director, producer, and singer. While shooting the film The International Secret Agents (1966) she met the man who would become her husband, an American ex-CIA agent.
