Shitara Koji is a Japanese composer, arranger, and music producer, as well as a former actor, born in Sakata, Yamagata, Japan.

Koji's acting career began in 1951 when he was discovered by director Nakamura Noboru while his father was working in the foreign film publicity department at Shochiku. Koji made his film debut in "Yume to Shiri-seba," released in 1952. He was later loaned to Toho in 1953.

Koji attended Tamagawa Gakuen Junior High School and continued to high school at the same institution. He enrolled in the Composition Department of the National University of Fine Arts and Music in 1965 and graduated in March 1969. After retiring from acting, he focused on music and studied abroad in Los Angeles from 1971 to 1975.

His father was Shitara Kosei, President of the Japanese Orthodox Fate Research Society, and his uncle was the composer Takemitsu Toru.
