Daughter of the J-Pop idol Matsuda Seiko and the actor Kanda Masaki, she made her unofficial debut when she was only 6 years old participating on a duet with her mother for the Christmas song "Twinkle Star, Shining Star", included on Matsuda's album Sweet Memories '93.
In 1999, with 13 years, she participated with a minor role in the short film Bean Cake, which was awarded at the Cannes Film Festival with the "Golden Palm" in 2001. In 2011, she announced the release of a second album, LIBERTY. The album would be released in commemoration of her 10th anniversary since her debut on the sort film Bean Cake.
In May 2017, Kanda married actor Mitsu Murata, but the couple divorced in December 2019.
On December 18, 2021, Kanda was found unconscious in the outer garden on the fourteenth floor of a hotel in Chuo Ward, Sapporo. She was taken to hospital in an unconscious state, but later she was declared dead at the age of 35. The cause of death is suspected to be suicide.
