Wendy

  • Name: Wendy
  • Native name: 웬디
  • Given name: Song Seung Wan
  • Also Known as: 손승완,
  • Nationality: South Korean
  • Gender: Female
  • Born: February 21, 1994
  • Age: 30
Wendy is a South Korean singer and the main vocalist of the K-Pop group Red Velvet. She was born in Seongbuk-dong, Seoul, South Korea, but moved to Canada with her sister to study. She also lived in Minnesota, the USA for a few years, then moved back to Canada again. In 2010, she auditioned for and became a finalist in the "Koreaboo: Cube Entertainment Global Auditions 2011". She was then casted by S.M. Entertainment in 2012 after auditioning at the S.M Global Audition in Canada.

Prior to her debut in Red Velvet, she was originally part of SM's pre-debut team "S.M. Rookies" in early 2014 along with current members Irene, Seulgi, and Yeri. She released an OST as S.M. Rookies' Wendy for the MNET drama "Mimi" called "Because I Love You" along with a music video with the same title.

Wendy released an English single with American singer-songwriter and record producer John Legend titled "Written in the Stars" in October of 2018 for the third season of SM Station, Station x 0. The collaboration is marked as John Legend's first work with a K-Pop artist.

On Christmas of 2019, Wendy suffered a terrible accident during the rehearsals for SBS's Gayo Daejeon. It was reported that because of the staff's negligence, Wendy fell 8ft off the stairs she was supposed to walk down from. Because of the accident, she suffered fractures in her pelvis and wrist, as well as facial injuries. She was discharged from the hospital three months after her accident and is now receiving outpatient treatment.

Wendy took part as the main voice actor for the Korean release of DreamWorks animated film Trolls: World Tour. She dubbed the voice of the female lead Poppy along with SF9's Rowoon. The movie was released in April 2020.

Wendy made her official return after a year-long hiatus due to her accident at SMTOWN Live "Culture & Humanity" on January 1st of 2021. She is also slated to become one of the four hosts in the upcoming JTBC music talk show "Mysterious Record Shop."

Wendy became the fixed DJ of the radio program “Young Street” on July 12, 2021. She will step down from the program due to potential schedule conflicts in the future. She will have her last broadcast on July 2, 2023. Edit Biography
