His grandfather was Fujikawa Yanosuke known as one of the seven samurai of Zenshinza. He comes from a family of entertainers, including his aunt, actress Imamura Izumi, his mother, Japanese dancer Fujima Taju, and his sister, actress Imamura Fumi, all associated with Zenshinza. He is considered a leader of the third generation of Zenshinza, serving as the secretary-general of the Zenshinza since 2011 and as its chairman since 2017.
His first job was in the 1951 film "Dokkoi Ikiteru," produced by Zenshinza and Hokusei Film. He appeared in the film at the age of two months. He made his stage debut in 1955 in "Hanazakari." He graduated from the Theater Arts Course at the Arts Department of the Tokiwamatsu Gakuen Junior College.
