After graduating, he worked as a high school art teacher before transitioning into the Taiwanese film industry, where he served various roles including makeup artist, still photographer, cinematographer, and assistant director.

Lin first learned to write scripts and later served as an assistant director for Shao Luo Hui. His first work was "Emperor Li Shi Min's Journey to Hell".

In 1964, Lin transitioned to directing Mandarin-language films, with his debut work being "The Oath of Love". In 1969, he was invited to the Kuotai Group to direct "I Love Shasha", gaining recognition from the Shaw Brothers. However, after a year, due to differences in ideology, he voluntarily resigned after completing the martial arts film "Master of Martial Arts" for the Shaw Brothers.

After leaving Shaw Brothers, Lin Fu Di frequently worked between independent film production companies in Hong Kong and Taiwan. When Huashi Television began broadcasting, Li Jia Li, the producer, invited Lin Fu Dito direct television dramas. This led to Lin directing his first television drama "Here Comes the Money".

In 1980, Lin Fu Di became the director of the Guangqi Society's dramas.
