He is the eldest son of Iikubo Yukiteru, who served as vice president of Iikubo Co., Ltd. and president of Iikubo Oil Sales. His grandfather, Iikubo Yukinaga, was the president of Iikubo Co., Ltd. and the first president of the National Reinforced Concrete Association.
In 1982, he graduated from Keio University with a degree in Japanese literature and joined Bungeishunju Ltd. After joining the company, he worked in various departments including the Sales Department, the Weekly Bunshun Editorial Department in the First Editorial Bureau, the Fifth Publishing Department in the Publishing Bureau, and the First Department in the Second Publishing Bureau. In 2003, he became the editor-in-chief of Bungeishunju magazine, and in 2009, he served as deputy director and manager of the Bunshun Shinsho Bureau. In 2011, he became the director of the Nonfiction Bureau, and in 2013, he was appointed director of the Nonfiction Bureau and later also took on the role of director of the International Bureau in 2014.
Subsequently, he held various positions including director of the Bunko and Shinsho Bureau in 2015, director of the Bunshun Bunko Bureau in 2016, managing director and head of the Nonfiction Editorial Committee in 2018, and senior managing director in 2020. In 2023, he was appointed president of Bungeishunju Ltd.
