He began his career as a lighting assistant at Ishihara Promotion, where he apprenticed under Fujibayashi Kan and Shiiba Noboru. In 1976, he was promoted to lighting technician for the television drama "Daigaku: Battle Days".
In 1978, he became a freelancer and made his theatrical film debut with "The Most Dangerous Game" in the same year. From then on, he primarily worked on Toei Central films.
