Before her debut, she worked as a dental assistant at a clinic in Nagoya. Encouraged by a fortune-teller to enter the entertainment industry, she moved to Tokyo at the age of 23. She previously performed under the stage name Hidaka Yukari (日高由香理) with Yellow Cab Nagoya.
Since 2004, Fukunaga has served as a race queen for Super Taikyu and Formula Nippon, among other events. On September 3, 2010, she announced a temporary hiatus from her entertainment career, stating she had found a new passion in a different field.
