He began his culinary career working under Chef Hou Deok Juk. In 1998, during the Kim Dae Jung administration, he was appointed the first Chinese-cuisine chef at the Blue House, drawing considerable attention as he was only 31 years old at the time.
Over the next 20 years, he catered to five presidents before retiring in 2018. He currently runs several Chinese and Korean restaurants around the country, is an adjunct professor at Kyung Hee Cyber University and a visiting professor at the International Korean Culinary Institute.
