Kim Jong Hak was a South Korean television director and producer. He graduated from Whimoon High School and later obtained a bachelor's degree in Journalism and Broadcasting from Kyung Hee University.

He joined MBC in 1977 and made his debut in 1981 as one of the directors of the long-running drama, "Chief Inspector". He then began working on historical dramas and most of his projects were highly successful. In 1991, he left MBC and joined SBS where he produced and directed the highly-rated drama "Sandglass". In 1995, he established the independent company J-Com and, in 1999, he founded Kim Jong Hak Productions and served as its first president until 2009.

However, in May 2013, he was placed under investigation for fraud, embezzlement, and professional negligence. He was summoned back by the South Korean Court as he was filming in China and, later, received an overseas travel ban. He always denied the allegations but, on July 23, 2013, he was found dead in a small rented room in Gyeonggi Province. Police investigation ruled his death a suicide as he burned charcoal briquettes inside the room and died due to carbon monoxide poisoning and asphyxiation. He was 61 years old.
