Before debuting, she attended a fan meeting for Park Jin Young in 2000. During the event, several fans had the opportunity to sing one song. After she performed, a scout for JYP Entertainment offered her a contract, and she became a trainee at the company.
She made her debut in October 2002 with her first studio album, "December 32". The eponymous lead track became well-known for her emotional interpretation, sad lyrics and dramatic music video. She also began singing OSTs for dramas and appeared in many variety shows.
In November 2012, she married Ha Dong Hoon (known professionally as Haha). The couple has three children.
She is represented by QUAN Entertainment (QUAN 엔터테인먼트).
