Imamura Genpei was born Onodera Yukio on June 15, 1910 in Kaminarimon, Asakusa, Tokyo (now know Taito, Tokyo). He used a variety of kanji for his stage name during his career. He belonged to Empire Kinema, Shinko Kinema, Yoshimoto Kogyo, and Moulin Rouge Shinjukuza and presided over the Imamurahara Troupe.
