He won the Best Director award at the Golden Koala Chinese Film Festival with his short film, "Distant Father" (2014) and "Night Runner" (2014), which was selected by the Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival.
In 2017, he participated in a film workshop under the supervision of Hungarian filmmaker Béla Tarr, where he produced "Man in the Well" (2017). In the same year, he published a collection of short stories titled "Huge Crack" (大裂).
On October 12, 2017, he took his own life.
In 2018, the movie "An Elephant Sitting Still", adapted from his short story, won the 55th Taiwan Film Golden Horse Award for Best Narrative Feature and Best Adapted Screenplay at the Berlin Film Festival.
