  • Nationality: Japanese
  • Gender: Male

He was born in Kagoshima City, Kagoshima Prefecture, as the eldest son of six siblings of a doctor, Bunko. After graduating from Waseda High School, he moved to the United States in 1923 and then went to Spain to save his travel expenses when he saw a picture of El Greco. He returned to Japan in 1927. From an art member of a left-wing theater company to an actor, he entered the avant-garde theater of Takamaru Sasaki and Tomoyoshi Murayama in the same year, the Tokyo Left Theater in 1928 and the new cooperative theater company in 1934. In 1938, he made his first appearance in the movie "Story of Seasons " directed by Sotoji Kimura.

After the war, he suffered from lung disease due to his chest hit on the stage and lived in a sanatorium. During that time, he joined the theater company Mingei, and in 1953, he went to the studio from a sanatorium to play a bit part in "Before Dawn" co-produced by Mingei and the Kindai Eiga Kyokai.

On the stage, he appeared in "Fishing Port" and "Referee", and in 1961, he won the Arts Festival Encouragement Award for his performance in "Cage". He directed in "About the Harm of Tobacco" in 1977. This unusual old man role had a unique taste.

He died of pneumonia at 87 years old. Edit Biography
