In 1968, he returned to the cameras as a director, debuting in the Alan Tang Cantonese movie "Red Light, Green Light". He subsequently switched to directing Mandarin movies, rejoining Shaw Brothers in 1973 and directing as many as four films a year before leaving the studio to found his own production company in 1979.
He is perhaps best known for the popular Crazy Bumpkins series of four comedies that he directed between 1974-1976.
