In 1999, he won the Best Actor Award at the 19th Hawaii International Film Festival for "A Beautiful New World" (美丽新世界). His popularity soared higher after his performance in the 1999 film "Shower" (洗澡) won him three awards, namely the Best Supporting Actor Award at the 5th Changchun Film Festival and the Best Actor Award at the 7th Beijing College Student Film Festival in 2000, and the 8th China Film Performance Art Society Golden Phoenix Award for Performance in 2001.
His elder brother is the director, screenwriter and actor Jiang Wen. In 1985, during his first year of high school, he met his first love, Song Yan. They married in 1995 and have two children.
