Entered the Russo-Japanese War as the flag bearer of the 22nd Infantry Regiment of Matsuyama . Under General Nogi , he suffered eight bullets and countless sword wounds on his body in the Siege of Port Arthur (whole body beehive gunshot wound ), and was seriously injured when his right wrist was blown away. He was mistaken for a corpse due to his serious injury and was confirmed to be alive on the way to the crematorium.
After returning to Japan, he published the actual battle record " Nikudan " written during his medical treatment in 1906 (Meiji 39). It became a great bestseller as a pioneer of war stories, and was translated and introduced to 15 countries such as the United Kingdom, the United States, Germany, France, Russia, and China.
Since 1924 ( Taisho 13), he had been the head of the newspaper of the Ministry of the Army , and in 1930 (Showa 5), he retired as Major General of the Army. His writings include "Home Front," "Pray for Grass," "Black Brick House," "General Shirakawa, " "General Nogi," and "Smoke Screen," as well as his autobiography, "Records of Sorrowful Things." In addition, he aspired to be a painter when he was a boy, and was so good at painting that he learned from a Shijo school painter, and published an art book.
Due to activities during the Pacific War , he was banished from public office in 1947 (Showa 22 ) and released in 1952 (Showa 27). He returned to Japan in 1959 (Showa 34).
In 1962 (Showa 37), he established the Matsuyama Bocchan Association and became the first Honorary Chairman.
Received the Ehime Prefectural Education and Culture Award in 1964 (Showa 39) .
1965 September 17 , died in hospital Sugai Ichiban-cho Matsuyama. 86 years old. Edit Biography
