Allen Chao, born as Chao Shu Hai in Tainan, is a Taiwanese actor, singer, songwriter and TV host. He is the father of Mark Zhao You Ting.

After retiring from the army, Chao worked in various jobs, such as trading company clerk, salesman, factory worker, etc before venturing into the music scene. During the heyday of campus folk songs in the 1970s, he released his solo album and became a recording singer, and also wrote lyrics and composed music.

In October 1979, he made his acting debut in a stage play "Chu Han Feng Yun", which kick started his involvement in showbiz. In 1983, he became famous for hosting the China TV puzzle program "Let's Come Together" and transformed into a TV host. In 1986, he won the Best Educational and Cultural Program Host Award at the 21st Taiwan TV Golden Bell Awards. In 1988, he won the Best Variety Show Host at the 23rd Taiwan TV Golden Bell Awards.

Chao made his screen debut in 1989 with his participation in the CTV unit drama "Jia Jia Fu". Edit Biography
