In the latter half of the 1950s, he became an exclusive actor of Toho and appeared in many works under his real name, Ryuichi Hosokawa. After the collapse of the exclusive system in 1971, he was given the stage name Yoichiro Kitagawa and is mainly active on television as an exclusive member of NAC .

Then, the base of activities transferred to Hokkaido Sapporo opened a "NAC Talent Center Sapporo" in, 1980, to create a theater company "troupe road".
