Can you please tell me why FL wanted an abortion and why she decided to give birth?
She was young and initially felt she couldn't take care of her baby and live a comfortable life.
And as much as she was an amazing mother to Umi in the future, everything was so overwhelming that she had no time or money to properly care for herself. It's one thing to be a good mother, but you have to be alive to care for your kid.
She neglected all her needs, desires and her existence, all for the benefit of taking care of Umi, which eventually led to her being terminally ill.
She was too selfless to her own detriment. Sometimes, just sometimes, we need to put ourselves first.
No one is mentioning it in the comments section, but the actor who plays Tsuno is doing such an amazing job at portraying his character.
Just finished watching episode 7 and I just stared at my screen in awe. I'm so pleasantly amazed by this jdrama. It's so good that I've completely lost interest in any other series I'm watching.
His portrayal of Tsuno Kun stole the entirety of Umi no Hajimari for me. There was a depressing subtlety in how he played that character.
Half the time I watched him on screen, the barrier of his character being fictional broke subconsciously in my mind. He brought so much life and humanity to that character, in a way that I hardly see actors do.
I cried a lot in scenes with Tsuno in it, even though I began the show being dismissive of his character.
And of course I'm already seeing stupid discourse on twitter about the movie. The audience should read the book and the specific part that is being adapted in the movie, before they talk.
Talking about the movie being straight washed and queer erasure, as if the people posting those less than intelligent tweets on twitter, and claim to have read the novel lack reading and comprehension abilities.
Just wait for the movie to come out, if you want to see a guy gay have a beautiful support system, this movie is for you. If you just want to watch two men be in love with little to no substance of their characterization, struggles, experiences and family life, there are so many actual bls out there, for you to watch.
If you lack the ability to have nuanced conversations and appreciation for the characters in the novel, save yourself the stress and don't watch the movie. I'm tired of seeing enough stupidity on tiktok and Twitter from bl stans.
Outside of the relationship with his mother, the description about the rest of the plot isn't quite accurate. THIS IS NOT A BL. For an accurate representation of which kind of queer media this is, please watch a movie like 'So long, see you tomorrow'. It's the best match I have seen for the aura this series will have.
From following the plot of novel I read, there's a main character, but there's no fixed second male lead. He has multiple partners across the timeline he the book covers. Love in the big city is realistic af.
I worry that when it's airing, a bl audience may not properly appreciate the nuances, and relate to the decisions the main character in the novel may make, but this is one of my favourite foreign queer novels ever, and I hope when it's out, that the audience engages with it in a respectable manner.
I truly cannot wait for it to come out. Read the novel before it's release, if you can. It's an experience.
Teases between an adult and someone still in highschool?
The main characters in the show are an adult and a teenager. Those are the two people that some people make ship edits of, which makes watchers who aren't familiar with the original story think there are teases.
The original teenager whose body the adult took over only gets substantial screentime at the end of the story.
Even in the original story there were no teases between the adult and teen, there's implied platonic bromance in their dynamic, since the gangster has a father figure like dynamic with the teenagers he meets at the school. The romance and teases are in the original novel between the two teenagers, but it has been unfortunately removed in this adaptation😞
The odd tiktoks edits that popped up on my fyp made me remember new episodes have dropped. Yay!
What confuses me about the edits I've been seeing is that the two leads with the swapped adult soul and the teenager are being shipped, and people are wishing it was a bl.
It's sad the bl elements were censored, but aren't the people angry claiming they're angry because the two teenage boys won't be together at the end of the story like in the original novel? It has nothing to do with the adult and teenager right? Because that's not what I'm seeing in the comments section of those videos.
Why are people comfortable with making romantic ship edits of someone in his late 40s and a teenager?

Such a phenomenal actor.
They had this man kissing a whole ass child, as an adult 💀
For reference he was 20 while the child actor was 15/16

This is not a bl.
The movie is just about the first chapter of the book. Which heavily focuses on their friendship.
What did you expect?

"That kind of dynamic can be unhealthy"
That kind of dynamic IS unhealthy

So, I'm just going to leave this comment here to point out that it was edited. You don't have to reply anymore.
I just want people who might be scrolling here to know I'm not baselessly saying I felt attacked.
