So, i have not heard a single good thing about this drama and have no plan to ever watch it but I read the novel's prequel story (Zhu Yan) and Sumo's story was fvcking torturous to read...That miserable child went through the worst g0ry violent painful psychologically disastrous and cruel things ever like I could not stop crying reading about him in the last quarter of the story 😭 pretty sure he's turned inti joker in Mirror twin cities' book (have still not read it) but it looks like they made him a saint in the drama lmfao...Tencent has an insane obsession with boring perfect male characters. They (Youku does this at times too) always take the last bits of humanity in novels' MLs and turn them into prophets who can do no wrong, instead, they paint the female characters as the bad cruel ones who torture these "poor" guys and those dudes never stop loving these "evil" women even with all the wrong they have done to them...Like okay I see what you're trying to do right there, but you cannot bait ME with these boringass men lol

Mister Zhang Han sitting there writing a story about a bunch of big men pushing 40 secretly following a woman, meddling in her private life, filming her and taking pictures of her is not "some things gotten wrong". It's straight up creepy and problematic. The bra strap scene is also not funny at all, it's s3xual harassment putting a comedy wig on. (like hahaha we laughed what a coincidence women don't get SAed in work place all the time like this let's make a funny joke out of it hahaha). The drama associating a latina woman with spicy food and spiciness is also not funny, it's racist and it happens in the first TEN minutes...These are so unacceptably bad that makes people question the writer's morals and judge it this harshly, they have the rights to not want to continue when they see the person who wrote, produced and acted in this has such weird mindset. It's not even about men's wrong ideas about women, it's about basic human decency.
Actual botanists criticized the unrealistic portrayal of the field in this show's promotional material and their team made a long and in detail response to their questions...I read it and tbh, I was NOT expecting them to be so serious about it lol. They DEFENDED themselves! Not twisting things, beating around the bush, making up empty excuses and gaslighting people, they genuinely responded respectfully and debunked misunderstandings. It's so common for entertainment media to ridicule many professions and jobs just to make the main characters' romantic relationship work to the point that I have lost hope completely, nowadays I'm just like "yeah as long as it's not blatantly offensive to people who do that for a living, it's okay, I bear with it" (Classical musicians are the biggest victims of cdramas lol). But seems like AROTLF's team did really put effort into this category. I'm surprised lol
