Can we take a minute to appreciate the detail of the princess's dancing throughout this drama. So wonderfully depicted and well thought out. Seriously, my mind was blown.
But am i the only one who feels that the real villain was the Fl's ex husband he was way more evil than wanning…
I feel that he was, for a few reasons.
For one, it feels like the princess genuinely went insane after what happened to her. She was always dancing around, just like she did when she was forced to as a hostage (and was then r***d, had her miscarriage and so on). It was so similar, it felt like her mind was still there, like it had never really left that place. When I first saw her dancing around I thought it was so strange. When I later saw it linked back to her being a hostage and the trauma/abuse/assault/humiliation and everything she'd suffered my mind was blown. Even her fall after the death blow looks like a dance move. Like she's twirling into the fall. Like even at the end she wasn't able to escape what happen to her there.
He also had someone who he shared a healthy relationship with. (Before he betrayed her.) His parents seemed to have genuinely had love for each other.
The only person she seemed to have a healthy relationship with was her mother, who died when she was a kid. And also left her with the dying message that having power is the only way to protect oneself (which is traumatic in and of itself). Her brother who was the only other person who somewhat cared about her as a person, was obsessed with taking over the throne. To the point where he messed up multiple peoples lives in order to do so (even people he had personal relationships with). So, not good either. Her parents didn't have a healthy relationship.
She was sent off to abuse as a hostage, by her own father, (who would not say that he loved her). And when she came back people treated her like trash. The reason she first liked the guy was that she felt like he cared, he treated her slightly like she was a human being (and I think she said his innocence too). If that doesn't say that she was starving for love and care from others, I don't know what does. If she had a healthy mind, I can't see that she would have become so enamoured with him over so little. (Personally I feel like he was just kissing up to her because she was above him in station but that's beside the point).
The wife who he "genuinely loved", he (as far as he knew) murdered. By burying her alive. (He claims he needed to protect his mother and sister, but he puts there lives in danger enough later on). And if he was going to kill her it's not as if the way he did was a merciful type of death. What a nightmarish way that would be to have your life ended.
You can genuinely see, on the other hand, the love that the princess has for the child she believes she is pregnant with. She is willing to sacrifice her happiness in some way for her "baby".
I get the feeling that if she had had someone who loved her the way his wife did (before he tried to murder her) she would never have done what he did to his wife. I think she would have fought tooth and nail rather than let someone she loved come to harm.
He had way more opportunity than her to become a good person and he didn't. It feels like he chose that path to becoming that trash that he was. And yet there he was wanting to call himself a victim and a hero at the same time. If he really was "her hero/protector" he would have been willing to sacrifice himself for her then, or at least try out some other plan like faking her death or something. He felt like such a fake, and like so much of the "goodness" he did, and claimed to have was just to prop up his own ego.
It feels like she was driven to an insanity that caused her to do horrible things. That's not to say she was a good person, but at least she never claimed to be. She never tried to act like someone who she wasn't.
There's something particularly heinous though, about someone who is evil and yet claims goodness and innocence.
Wasn't it revealed that at some point the butler had sort of been friends with the mom?
To me it would make sense for the mom to look horrified if it was the step-mom there along with the butler (who she probably felt as trustworthy because he'd acted like her friend) too.
She would be seeing the lady with evil intent who hates her and the family's butler (potential lackey) who would be strong enough to overpower her.
Makes more sense to me that she would be afraid of him, verses the young man that the brother would have been at the time. Even if it was just the butler actually being there in person (without the step mom), it makes more sense to me .
The butler would also likely have access to recourses at the time that the brother wouldn't, such as: transportation, access to the knowledge of what medication she was on/the fact that it could be deadly, her place of residence ,etc.
Poor Yi Soo, gonna feel so betrayed, he had a better relationship with the butler than with his father . . . And at that point with both his parents dead too, and never having had a better relationship with his dad. :(
Hopefully, he might be able to have some relationship w/ his brother in the end. Seeing as Yi Soo wanted to resign to save his brother, maybe he could understand his brother wanting to protect his family even when they are in the wrong (and he was at a younger age then too).
The way he seemed to be looking right at Yi Soo when he said he could do anything for his family. It's like he was giving him an explanation ahead of time, so that he could understand where he was coming from once Yi Soo eventually found out.
I just don't want him to be alone. :( Good thing he has his fellow officers at least.

I'm looking forward to both the romance and the bromance to come! Along with more of the intriguing storyline(s) we've seen so far! :)
