Oh, 4 years, you're still a baby, LOL. I have 16 years. Anyway, I didn't know it that's why I asked the question before I started watching. I was reading through the comments and people are loving it but the rating doesn't match the hype. But opinions are subjective. You don't think it deserves more and its completely understandable.
Personally, now I am in the 4th episode and I think it deserves more. I don't know maybe let's keep watching until I am halfway then I can give a better feedback on it.

Well, then you must be new here. But based on MDL ratings anything below 8 isn't considered popular. However, the hype around this drama suggest it should be one of the popular dramas this year. And the ratings doesn't seem to agree here.

For persons who haven't watched the show, why is the rating so low while the comments themselves are wholesome?

I came here expecting some negative comments but to my surprise people actually liked it. Yi Kyung influence is too strong. People love whatever he's in.

So some of us were actually laughing at his corny jokes.

I guess its only when you leave somewhere that people start to recognize your presence.

I love how towards the end of EP 16, we saw that the ML was actually useful to the company. Many of the employees made him to look like he held his position because he was the step son to the father. But he is actually competent and some even said he seemed to have been doing all the work for them.

His father just never shows his emotions. Remember when Kang Joo got drunk after finding out his father had a bastard son, his father told him a man should not show his emotions. He is not expressive in nature and I think you already saw that.
On the other hand, the son knows he is not the biological son, so he always feel the need to get approval from him. Its like he thinks if he falls short, his father won't hesitate to drop him. So in a way, that's his greatest insecurity.

I agree crime has no gender. If you do something bad, you're a BAD person, that's all. Though I do agree she indeed do bad, I would also want her to get a chance. We all deserve a second chance, hopefully she learnt from that mistake and be a better person in future.

Yeah, to put it simply is that there was no closure. I didn't want to dwell on that coz its just like how I said, it didn't feel empty, which I like coz we can agree. All these instances you mentioned, their storylines were left dangling in the air such that it is left for the viewer to speculate or interpret for themselves what happened next. Hence, that's why you're debating that its vaguely shown.

I agree with your argument. I don't think its that far from what I think. But here's my take: The only reason the show didn't show any progression in those stories I mentioned as 'plot holes' to put it simply is to show that we should just focus on the things that matter. More than half of the storyline in the show was for the protagonist to find his biological dad. We didn't get a closure on that simply because it didn't matter. What mattered was creating memories with people we got along the way and the family and bonds we forged. So in the end we see the ML spent his last days with people that CHOOSE TO STAY. The FL since childhood had always felt empty because she had never had a mother. It significantly influenced her character and her dreams. Becoming a mother was her biggest achievement in life.
But we see when the opportunity is presented for her to finally meet her mother, she forgoes that opportunity. Why? Coz it didn't matter anymore. These people never chose to be in your life. Hence, we see in the dinner/bar where the two women + ML's friend were more of her family as they were in her corner and were willing to take her side more than how her mother ever will.
I just think the show itself stayed true to reality. Hence, why I felt it isn't empty by the nature that there are many things in life that are unanswered. OR maybe we're asking the wrong question in life.
Basically, we begin the story with the ML setting a journey to look for his roots but he ends up right where he was. Instead of looking for the bonds that never came to be, we should take care of what we have (or given).

Its one of the mysteries we'll never get to know like also if Jae Mi's mother ever sought out to know her? Who is the biological dad for Hae Jo?? Did his estranged father find out that he was dying from cancer? These are some plot holes and honestly the show doesn't feel empty without them.
