Revenged Love is a twisted, morally grey drama. It was never marketed as a wholesome romance. The main character is messed up — that’s literally the point. You’re supposed to feel conflicted, uncomfortable, and even disturbed. It’s part of what makes it compelling.
And let’s stop pretending this is the only show that’s ever included rape or violence. Game of Thrones, The Glory, The World of the Married, Kill Bill, Euphoria, even classic Hollywood dramas — all have dark, horrific scenes. Where’s the outrage for those?
No one is “downplaying” rape. No one is saying it’s okay. But portraying something in fiction ≠ promoting it. If you can’t separate the two, then you shouldn’t be watching revenge dramas — or honestly, any drama with morally complex characters.
Being critical is one thing. But acting morally superior while accusing people of accepting rape just because they watch a dark storyline? That’s not critical — that’s performative and insulting.
Also, no one is saying rape is okay. But a rape scene in a drama doesn’t mean it’s being romanticized or fantasized about. It’s a plot device — one that exists in countless shows and movies across the world. Where’s this same energy for things like Game of Thrones, The Glory, Euphoria, Prisoners, Itaewon Class, or even Law & Order episodes? Should we cancel all of those too?
People get murdered, tortured, raped, abused, and destroyed in media all the time — not because it’s “okay,” but because it reflects how dark and complex human emotions and stories can be. Fiction explores that. And just because a viewer watches it doesn’t mean they approve of it.
So if this makes you uncomfortable, that’s fine — skip the show.
What made it even more far-fetched was them jumping into the ocean at night after getting caught. The men had guns — most people would surrender in that situation. You’re vulnerable in the water, in the dark, and being shot at. Somehow they still managed to get away? It would’ve been more believable if the men had machetes instead — at least that way, the escape wouldn’t seem so impossible.
That said, I love this show! The kiss scene on the island was so romantic. Taiwan taking care of Phi’s injured leg was such a sweet moment. Their teamwork and the way they survived together on the island was the real highlight of the episode for me. Just a thought to make that earlier scene more realistic: swap the guns for machetes!
Fiction is full of flawed, even irredeemable characters. Some are meant to horrify us, some to challenge us, and yes, even some to grow and redeem themselves.
Characters are not real. Actors aren’t their roles.

So the top-rated BLs from China, Japan, and Korea have all dropped in ratings, while Thailand and Taiwan scores seem to have stayed the same?
