I agree with you, but as you said, you describe what the director wanted to do, while I describe how he failed to do it 😅. And what frustrates me is how he makes the ML a simp toward an FL whose job is more valuable to her, and whom she loves more than her man, and red flag above all from start as you mentioned. What makes me frustrated with this cliché is the double standard of the director and writers. If it were the ML who broke up with her, he would have to change 160 degrees, beg her, and chase her to show that he loves her more and that she is his priority ,not just give her a half-sign without even properly apologizing for the harsh way he broke up with her , and without confessing that she is his priority not a job or mentor .Even when they want to show that she makes him her priority, they somehow make her prefer her job over him and be cold as she don't even like him and she cry for one minute and that's it next morning she act as he was just a one night stand 😂😂 and then say it's for his sake because she wants him to focus on his job not defending her and lose it. When there many solutions to do that without harsh stupid break up so she can change one percent,like how they make her think to accept him by killing a character so she make fast , stupidity at best of writing. In the past, MLs acted like this FL and were called red-flag scumbags, but now FLs are called “independent, strong, and badass.” And producers produce what makes them money, so a red-flag “independent, strong” FL who doesn't put any effort into the relationship is apparently the best plot for them. Meanwhile, men get hated for being normal men and are only accepted if they are simps beneath the FL.

Not just playful slaps—in the C-dramas, K-dramas, and Turkish dramas I watch, they slap men as casually as drinking water and don’t even apologize because they say he deserves it. I hate Western shows because of this toxic, red-flag writing, like Grey's Anatomy or Desperate Housewives. They're full of dramas where friends cheat with their friends' wives, people swing with each other's girlfriends and boyfriends, and husbands are treated like jokes and doormats.
