so this is just my interpretation and i hope this makes some kind of sense, but as already hinted in the drama, the manga is using smut as a way to help shirasaki get more into his role and improve his acting.

also since you asked smutty in this sense means "indecent" but doesn't necessarily always refer to penetrative sex, i mean they do have it eventually, but it actually takes a few chapters in before they go all the way.

okay so my mind is a bit foggy since it's been a while since i read the manga but i'm fairly sure that Tanaka doesn't have any phobia for touching others, it's just Tanaka's subtle love language towards Natsukawa, hence why Tanaka only touches Natsukawa🥰
