I'm really enjoying the town set designs . The smaller passages and the stone houses are what really remind me of Legend of Ming Lan and I haven't seen the architecture in dramas for quite some time. Then the teahouse Zhen works at is such an inviting open space. No wonder their business runs well (helped out by Zhen being charming and business savvy).

As you say, they think of themselves as too smart. They wanted to show off their education by showing how the ink does in drawings. They thought a simple swatch test is beneath them or even beneath the ink at this level. Meanwhile Zhen just cares about the ink itself.

The young versions of the two Luo brothers were so precious!

Well, that's a you issue. A you issue of people who need to watch everything on 2.0 speed and skip scenes to then not understand anything.

Nice to see this be one of the dramas to break through the 40-episodes rule now that that era is over. I hope that means the ending won't be awkwardly rushed.

Two episodes in and the editing is already so disjointed. No wonder the reviews say things just happen.

Catching up to this after A Splendid Match break, and the way A Sheng and Jin Lun are such a gut punch. Such a great tragedy. But these writers really aren't doing Xin Mei any favors. Kind of mourning pre-forcer Amnesia Xin Mei. She was incredible.

I guess "making out" is a broad term. She lost her hair clip, accidentally opened the window and they were so awkward about it in the carriage, you can't tell me skin wasn't exposed. 😂 (And it's probably vague due to censorship.)

The way I was rooting for Gu Lan in the beginning and now she and her mother might just be the most rage-inducing concubine-sister pair because they are evil and dumb.

The FL met real Zhaoxi only one time when they played chess. Any attraction only went so far as she, who is an assassin trained to put her feelings behind the task ahead, thought it would be ok to marry him to get the leadership position. All other feelings and her rethinking who she wants to be came when the crown prince started acting as Zhaoxi.

Both the madam and the concubine married Gu Jinchao's father against their parents' wishes? What love spell did he put on them in their youth? 💀

Hedgehog Sheng with Jin Lun would make a cute little comic.
