His acting is really good we need to see him as a main lead asap!!
Seriously. This guy has been acting since 1998, why isn’t he offered lead roles? Even second lead roles? I would be happy if he gets second lead role (even if he deserves main lead). Meanwhile other actors his age who only started acting a few years ago, are given lead roles fast.
I really hope he'll play in more movies or drama later on. I discovered him in DOTS (and i think this is one of…
He’s not the main lead in Sungkyunkwan Scandal (historical drama with romcom elements), but he’s one of the two other male supporting leads. His role there as a happy go lucky “nobleman” student is one of the highlights of the show. It is his breakthrough role so watch it. Also, do not miss out Tree with Deep Roots (historical drama, more serious than Sungkyunkwan), although he did Sungkyunkwan the year before, it was Tree that made critics think that he can be seriously taken as an actor (that can do heavy and serious roles, not just for romcom). Watch the first four episodes for him (he’s the younger version of the King, who is the main character of the drama). If you enjoy the drama, please continue watching it even if he’s not there anymore since it’s a great drama in general. If you didn’t, you need to check out his bonus scene later in episode 8 or 9 (forgot which of the two), because his performance there is fantastic.
anyone knows which era this drama was based on and if there are actual historical documentation on it?
The story is based on a folktale from Goguryeo period. The king though is a real person and he has a wikipedia page. Goguryeo is rarely done in kdramas. Goguryeo started in BC era and ended in 600 something AD when the kingdom of Silla conquered it and unified Korean peninsula. (During Goguryeo era, there was a period called "Three Kingdoms period" because three kingdoms ruled the Korean peninsula, namely Goguryeo, Silla, Baekje). There is someone who recommended My Country the New Age with this kdrama in the recommendations for this drama because they said it's the same time period, but it's so wrong because there is 800 years between this one and that one (My Country the new Age happened at the beginning of Joseon era). The only Goguryeo dramas in my mind right now aside from this one are Jumong, Kingdom of the Winds, and Ja Myung Go. Keep in mind that Goguryeo is different from Goryeo (setting of Moon Lovers, Empress Ki). Goryeo is the period between 900 something AD until late 1300s (it's the kingdom that ended Silla), while Goguryeo ended in 600 something AD. Goryeo got its name because it's founder was a descendant of the former Goguryeo kingdom.
Moon Chae Won? She was in recent drama Flower of Evil, it's really good. Other dramas of hers to be recommended…
It’s not my top recommendation among her (Moon Chae Won) dramas either. My top recommendation for her drama is Princess Man or Painter of rhe Wind (even if she’s supporting here). But a lot of people who are her fans liked her from that drama so I just mentioned it. Peace.
The one drama that’s popular, but isn’t overrated and is actually worth the watch for the acting performances…
I personally feel this drama is quite underrated though. If you check out the music videos of this drama, the most number of views is about a bit more than 1 million views. Most popular dramas have at least 5 million or more views on their music videos. Adding my personal bias is that I feel like my favorite actress Moon Chae Won will not receive any award or recognition at all for this performance. I'm still hoping Lee Joon Gi will receive a baeksang nomination or evenwin(want the same for Chae Won too but I feel that she has a very strong competition from the leading lady of another 2020 drama popular in mydramalist).
okay, if that's how you find the drama. I cant force you. For me though, it is a great drama. From the beginning, it was described as melodrama-thriller, and they delivered it just fine for me. Maybe romance is just not your genre? (For me the romance is really great especially the actors delivered them pretty well).
I haven't watched this drama, but definitely planning to after it airs. I salute the whole cast for willingly refilming the whole drama. Just imagine, there are even children who had to reshoot scenes because of the original actor.
Depends on you, but most people described the drama's romance as mature. It's not your typical drama. There's a lot of mystery to be uncovered about the characters. There's a reason why drama's ratings are so high, give it at least until episode 5 or 6. Those two episodes are important.
there is romance, the romance is not a romcom type. more like mature and there is some melodrama too. The actors described the drama as 80% melodrama and 20% thriller. There's also mystery that unfolds as the drama progresses, the more it unfolds the more you'll understand the characters. you'll definitely love the romance more as you understand the characters more. there's a reason why many people love this drama.
I want her in Pre-Joseon sageuk drama. This year, my favorite child actors who are great in historical dramas (Kim So Hyun and Kim Yoo Jung) are back in sageuks, hope the same for MCW. Prefarably with Lee Joon Gi again (such a wasted opportunity if they don't act in historical drama together given they have proven fantastic chemistry and are also both individually shining in sageuks) but other male leads would be great too .Ji Chang Wook, Kim Nam Gil, Byun Yo Han, Yoo Ah In are my other good choice .
Totally agree. Also in his latest drama he showed again how versatile he is as an actor. Loved him as Imoogi(so…
me too. It's been 23 years since his debut, and he hasn't been giving lead roles (except in few indie movies and one drama he did as a kid actor), while actors who debuted like 4-5 years ago are leads already. so not fair for him.
All of them were in the same drama. Kim Soo Hyun plays the main king in Moon Embracing the Sun. Kim Yoo Jung and Kim So Hyun played the child versions of the two women competing for the king's heart.
Meanwhile other actors his age who only started acting a few years ago, are given lead roles fast.
