there is a special episode / ep 37 on dailymotion. it’s a bit vague but i guess it can be interpreted like this: the crown prince never died (they did not show him in the coffin or being cremated). the crown prince’s physician found the cure in a faraway mountain, and cured the crown prince. he was on treatment for 4 years, hence he comes back when the son is 4 years old. also, regarding the dream of the crown princess/empress dowager at the end, i think it was her imagining how it will be once the crown prince comes back (because she knew he was coming back after finishing treatment).
